This video was great. I have a raised garden bed and the soil has been in there so long that it is really compacted. Your video was very instructive and now I have some ideas on how to make the soil more loose rather than replacing the whole lot of soil with new soil. Thanks for this great video.

In Puerto Rico we have akeline soil and it's heavy clay soil and dirt where humid and sunny 70 degree or more with a ph level of 70 and sun radius around 5.5 and I built structural trenches for precipitation around 70 percent. The soil is cold soil about 60 percent of time because of cloudy weather.

This really a good idea which I liked However, in my terrace garden I never use soil or sand to keep the weight of the pot very light which can be lifted by a school child. I have been getting excellent results with a combination of cocopeat, home made compost sterlized bonemeal home made mustard cake powder and Zyme crystals of varying percentage depending upon requirement of plants. I am not sure but I think the nursery plant is grown in optimum condition soil. But since clay hold water for long and retain the structural form for long they are easy to do packaging , transportation etc. Also it's like keeping a flower in a water pot. It is only to keep the plant wet and moisted for some time.

If your area soil is sandy and quick drainage then it will help to retain moisture. For indoor plants we can skip soil and use coco peat also it us light weight. For mixing proportion - As per our observation, we can use coco peat about 30℅ to 40 ℅ of total soil mix. If we use more then the plant not get proper support and get band towards downside. Nice one. I also used this technique in many of my potting mix. But now ive tried taking organic items buy mixing it in the soil and do heavy mulch. Also beneath the pot i added greens and browns which decompose further and add future aid for the soil nutrition and root ease. After plants die i put them back in their soil letting it decompose bringing extra carbon it absorbed. I repeated this process and my hard reddish -yellow clay soil is darkening and becoming soft with time. It will soon become soft and dark in colour It is the cheapest and the best form of converting the texture of the soil.

Construction sand makes potting mix heavy thus river sand is better moreover its particles are comparatively smaller making its useful for good homogeneous potting mix and also prevents spilling of fine clay particle from drainage.

when you end up with 1/3 original clay soil and 2/3 added other materials, it can hardly be called amelioration of clay soil. more like almost total replacement. if this is for potting only, you might as well get good potting media, instead of mixing clay and sand, as it will still not drain well. best potting media is coir/peat based.
