Tari Lenggang Nyai Tutorial | Learning Traditional Indonesian Dance

In this video, I share my journey of learning Tari Lenggang Nyai, a traditional Betawi dance from Jakarta. I first learned this dance in Melbourne, and it quickly became one of my favorite Indonesian dances to perform. However, when I posted a snippet of the dance on TikTok, it went viral for a surprising reason-many Indonesians pointed out that I was doing it wrong!
Determined to perfect my technique, I traveled to Jakarta to relearn Tari Lenggang Nyai from a professional Betawi dancer. This video shows my experience in class, correcting my mistakes and learning the authentic moves from an expert. After my lesson, I went over the entire dance to demonstrate what I learned, and I reflect on the importance of learning cultural dances properly.
