Again, a simple easy to follow introduction to terrain making.. I'm hoping you get to triples so you can comment on my Amazon's attack athens build... it's all been pretty simple built...but there is lots of time consuming bits as well.

I have found, over the years, that the cork floor tiles from B&Q or Wickes are fantastic for basing terrain. They are easy to work with and very durable. After all they are designed to be walked on. If you use them shiny side down they take PVA well. They can also be used as walls and floors. Pretty cheap. I think last time I bought some they were about £7 for 10 1' square tiles.

Haven't used cork in ages but they do make great bases, I sort of have a thing for chunky bevelled bases, hence the mdf and cake bases mate

I just discoverd foam board and I really enjoy your videos. A lot of helpful tips and tricks! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing some videos with more sci-fi terrain, especially for Infinity. The game requires a lot of line of sight blocking terrain as opposed to the "all ruins" look of 40k. I'd love to see what you could do with that type of terrain where the details are more clean and sci-fi.

Its very important! It NEEDS line of sight blocking terrain, so the "swiss cheese" style terrain from 40k isn't as useful. Check out this little "how to" about terrain from the official forums: www.infinitythegame.com/forum/index.php?/topic/12744-Infinity-Terrain-density-Quick-Tips

Don't know if you're gonna mention this later, and I've certainly seen you do them in your other foamboard builds, but internal walls are something that shouldn't be forgotten! Buildings are rarely just 1 room per floor, so dividing walls can go a long way towards making a building more believable and take very little time at all!

Great vid - thanks. Very entertaining and motivational and a good looking building to show at the end. Spot on. Are you thinking about covering the whole thing in filler or some gloop with sand to add some texture. Would paint up lovely and be even stronger. Was also wondering if you thought about scoring on some brick effects before construction? Keep the vids coming :)

When i saw that first floor hanging off i was wondering if you could do something to stick in some.. i dunno.. something that might look like a rebar, to secure the floor at an angle, making it seem like the first floor is only held by the reinforcements in the concrete. Any suggestions on how such a rebar could be made? I was thinking maybe a firm copper wire? If so, is there a way to add in some texture to them, so they get this rebar look? Maybe some pliers?

I have to say Mel, that you have changed my opinion on foam board. I have seen allot of buildings made from FB and trust me they have been horror stories in the making, but your building always look planned and made to last. Also just an idea for a series for you, Back to basics. Allot of new people getting into modelling and Terrain building come onto YT and they see everyone using Airbrush's and so on and they run off to get one without learning how to use a simple paint brush. Things like that ;) its just an idea dude. ;)

Are you using the "magic" primer coating first? The "magic" primer is the mixture of Mod Podge with color that helps to give the project a hardened surface. Regular paints and glues have too much water in them for the paper topping of the foam boards. Using a product like Mod Podge gives strength to the project and seals the surface to additional layers of paint. Your final top coat is also a sealant to protect from use and atmospheric elements.

There is also hard board, if you go somewhere and they are right next to each other there is foam board ( white and black) 1-3$ a sheet and there is hard board usually black and 7$ @theterraintutor anything on this, you use regular foam board that's soft in the center or hard board?
@Purpll3D
@Purpll3D 5 жыл бұрын
Antonio Aguilera, I haven’t been able to find any hardboard anywhere in my area. I found some small packs of white foam board at walmart which they no longer sell anymore, and packs of foam board from micheals which are about $13 for 2-3 sheets and $16 for black. I’ve been wanting hardboard for some orc and scatter terrain.

I'd definetely advice all people to use a glue gun instead of standard PVA glue to assemble elements... I tried it and you can just fix elements into position in 5 seconds without needing to use pins / woodsticks and all the regular stuff to keep things in place and wait for it to dry... and it does not melt either the foam as cyano glue does. Tested this summer and this is a nobrainer to reduce my "workshop to gaming" time.
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 10 жыл бұрын
David Savarin Hot glue's great for speeding up build constructions but you've got to be spot on with it. Unlike pva, the working time of hotglue is very short which means if you don't get things aligned correctly, you've knackered your build. Add to that the fact that if you have any accidental blobs, you're not going to be able to clean them up and the fact that if the glue cools too quickly, you'll get gapping between the foamboard joins, it's easy to see why pva is more suited to terrain building, especially for beginners. I'm not saying I don't use it, I use hotglue when attaching things to bases but never for visible joins but if it works for you, good on ya mate.
