Love this video! Slowing way down and playing in strict time has really freed things up for me. I found myself being more creative, since I was in the flow and not editing everything as I was playing it. I would love to see a video on how to begin a solo: what are some good tactics for finding that first idea?

Re: slowing down, I remember one music teacher telling me, when I was playing too fast, "Stop, stop. You're going too fast. Spell the word 'slow'." And I looked at him and did it, "S. L. O. W.?" And he said, "That's how slow you need to play". XD I always remember that when I'm practicing, to start off that slowly.

Thanks for that. I could hear myself spelling it out in my head!

Respectfully, it just seems like you're listing what NOT to do without really telling folks EXACTLY what to work on with the caveat that Jazz is more Art than Science. And while that's true, you can see how this leaves the novice player overwhelmed and scratching their heads right? No wonder so many of us give up. This music is just completely unapproachable.
