Thank you for this lesson! About a month ago I was sat in front of a piano and asked to 'just play', but this anxiety of it not sounding good held me back. Learning how to improvise will make a fun journey, and this lesson is certainly appreciated :)

Incredible video. I think improvisation should be more common with classical musicians and your video is a great start for someone wanting to start to improvise

Please keep doing lessons like these. They are helping me really learn how to use all of these scales and chords I learned over the last years maybe you can do some in ab major or minor or bb major or minor? Classical improvisation is my favourite thing to do on piano but I haven’t had much luck learning how to since nobody teaches it anywhere. Good work very educational 👍.

Thank you so much, this is hugely helpful. Subscribed! One question: you showed how to randomly play notes on a scale. I find that I have learned the scales going up and down, but 'random' within a scale like you did is so hard for me! I struggle knowing how to reposition my hand and move around the random notes if it's not in the systematic up-and-down the traditional scale one note at a time. Do you have any tips or exercises to be able to reposition my hand if the notes jump above or below my current hand position? Thank you!

Start practicing scale in sequences, thrids, traids, and arpegios. *Scales in sequences* Example no. 1: C-D-E, D-E-F, E-F-G... Example no. 2: C-D-E-F, D-E-F-G, E-F-G-A... Example no. 3: F-E-D-C, G-F-E-D, A-G-F-E... *Scales in thirds* Example: C-E, D-F, E-G... *Scales in triads* Example: C-E-G, D-F-A, E-G-B... *Arpegiated Scales* Example no. 1: C-E-G-B, D-F-A-C, E-G-B-D... Example no. 2: C-E-G-B-G-E, D-F-A-C-A-F, E-G-B-D-B-G... Example no. 3: B-G-E-C, C-A-F-D, D-B-G-E... Example no. 4: B-G-E-C-E-G, C-A-F-D-F-A, D-B-G-E-G-B... Here, I just listed arpegio patterns using the 7th, which, pressuming we're in the key of C mayor, will result in major seventh arpegios (CMaj7 and FMaj7), minor seventh arpegios (Dmin7, Emin7th, and Amin7th), dominant seventh arpegios (G7), and diminished seventh arpegios (B°7th). There are many more arpegio patterns like the minor six, which will sound good over any minor chord, especially over the sixth chord (that's a personal preference), whole tone arpegios, which can be used over the third degree of a harmonic minor scale, and there are many others I don't know. Also, if you ever find a melody by, let's say, Bach, Chopin, or Debussy, that you like, copy it and practice it like you would with any other of the patterns listed above.
