1:10 : I call bullshit. That doesn't even make sense. I can understand how someone might think that an arrow could punch through a chest plate. But a throwing knife? At this point, if this is how they want armour to work in their universe, then why did the guard commission so much of it? When armour became this ineffective against ranged weapons IRL, armies stopped bothering with it, and switched to cloth uniforms instead. Hell, even layered cloth is tougher than this. I bet when tanks come about in the AC universe, armies of assassins will charge those as well, and hack them to bits with trench knives. An attack diver with a hidden blade can carve his way right through the hull of a battleship and kill everyone inside. Bloody hell, Ubisoft. Hire a historical advisor.

This particular example is extra-spectacularly bad, though. o0m9 In point of fact, archaeologists believe that the ancient Chinese manufactured half-inch paper armour as early as 600-ish BC, and that this armour could stop arrows. So yeah, that kinda settles it, doesn't it? Hollywood-plate is literally worse than paper.

JoeRingo118 It's not possible for a person to exert enough force on a throwing knife to pierce (properly made) plate armor (at least not the chest). Arrows get most of their power from their speed. A human arm won't make up the difference in power exerted by a bow or crossbow. Unless it's a bodkin arrow (essentially a spike-tip), most arrows require repeated strikes to get decent penetration in plate. Archers were so dangerous because there were so many of them. Fire enough arrows at a knight and you'll either create an opening in his armor or put an arrow through one of his joints.

JoeRingo118 Unless it's literally a sheet of tin or aluminum a thrown knife won't pierce plate armor. You get less force from throwing a knife than you do from actively stabbing with it, so for a thrown knife to pierce a chest piece would make said armor less useful than a standard gambison (a really thick cloth coat). Also: Blunt weapons are specifically designed for use against armored targets (assuming they're properly shaped). The objective is to dent/bend armor or put enough shock through the armor that the other guy feels it anyway. Plate's key strength is it's ability to deflect stabbing and slashing weapons.

JoeRingo118 No, sorry, I don't buy that. I somewhat doubt that an unaided throwing arm can impart enough force unto a thrown object for it to push through steel, even under optimum conditions. And in real-world conditions, where the hit is never dead-on perpendicular, where the knife may not be turned dead-on point first, where the target's joints have some give... ? No, I think not. Do keep in mind that, even in the Battle of Agincourt, the French knights actually made it all the way up to the British lines, with minimal casualties. They had to be struck down in melee. And the fact that many or most of them didn't even bother with shields should tell you something about how well protected they expected to be by their coat of plates. Do take note how neither side in that battle, nor any participant in any battle I've ever heard of, brought throwing knives, with the intent of tossing them through steel plate. I'll admit that the question of arrows vs steel plate isn't considered to be definitively settled, but I'm absolutely positive that the question of thrown knives vs steel plate has never even been considered worthy of consideration. Or, well. Not until the unorthodox free-thinkers at Ubisoft had their say, at any rate.
