I spend such time torquing my wheels for the track “just so” that I can never believe how there aren’t more errors or cross threads or breakages when those 5 lugs get impacted in without a star pattern. Obviously it works but… how?!?

If you pause at about 22 seconds you can see the painted section of the wheel studs. There's no thread there, just stud that is sized to the ID of the nut. The nuts slide on and chill there waiting to be hit with the gun. Since they are held perfectly straight they cannot cross thread. As for star pattern, we care more about speed than perfect torque when all we need is the wheel to not fall off in the next 150 miles. Typically the first wheel nut the gun hits will be loose when we check it, but the car can survive fine with one nut entirely missing so one just being 50nm low isn't hurting anything. Over a longer distance it would be a bigger problem.

@@5000TQ the comment about "not falling off in the next 150 miles or so" is the key thing. These tires aren't going to be doing your average street car mileage so it's forgiveable

Ive watched this about 5 times. How do you lift the car up and why were you putting old/worn tires on the car? I always thought you put newer/fresh tires on each pit. What was that hose you put into the front cawl?

Car is on pneumatic jacks, normal kit for sports car racing. That hose that I connect with my right hand is the pressure line for the jacks. The tires were new, just had been scuffed in which means one easy lap around the track to clean the mould release compound off. This makes the tire have more grip right off the bat.

So GT4 Cars have the same Tire change style as nascar?

Are these different than nascar lugs cause they can change five real quick

Removing and installing lug nuts are like 2x faster in NASCAR.

Yeah for sure. This is a different sport though with different tools and different requirements.

This is endurance racing man. Gotta be slow cause slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
