Although I respect your opinion, I have to say that I strongly disagree. For me, the Acura is the worst design and livery. Not really a fan of the shape of the wing on top of the nose and the livery on both cars is just uninspiring and looks like a standard livery on a racing game. The BMW, despite looking great on bare carbon, exaggerates the size and dimensions of the grill way too much with the livery. The design is undoubtedly BMW, but it's a bit messy. I get what you said for the Porsche, but it's a simple design and there's value in that. It also suits the customer's livery extremely well, like it did with Jota in WEC. Finally, and for some reason, the Cadillac grew on me massively, especially the yellow one. I have to admit the liveries are not awe inspiring, but that front just looks so clean and so good. I guess the sound of that thing also made me like it a bit more.

I mean, that's the sticky aspect of aesthetics - it's entirely personal opinion without a true right/wrong. I do like the Jota livery for the Porsche as well, but it strikes me as slightly monochromatic. Would have liked to see the red front stripe play a bit more heavily, maybe as a side stripe that flows over the top of the rear wheel boxes

@@lenslr I think you numbered your choices in the wrong way, 1st should be second best (with 2nd being 1st) not worst. Partially only kidding, but Acura and BMW are the worst of the designed cars. That nostril on the BMW just looks forced, the headlight pods and nothing else except the square intake fits it. If you shoved Old school reflector lamps inside those housings it'd just look like an LMP2 car with a faux grill like the Nissan and Acura DPI's, the exact opposite of the Cadillac LMDh which uses the same chassis. The Acura is second worse, it's so chassis constrained that not only is the alpine joking referred to as the "Acura at home" but the Genesis reveal was immediately picked up on as a oreca chassis before the announcement even said the name "oreca" . It has the same aesthetics of the Acura 05, aka the Oreca 07 with a front wing attached. Compared to the cadillac and porsche which reflect their manufacturers 100%. The Caddy dallara carries the edges of the tough, big and sharp personality that cadillac is portraying 100%, to where it doesn't seem like a rebranded LMP2 car. The Porsche has a no-nonsense clean/simplistic design looking design, just like their road cars. Don't believe me? While the entirety of the body of the porsche and caddy tells us about what the company wants to be; the BMW and Acura feel like a phone it in attempt. Lets just stick something that mimics our car's headlights or grill on there type of deal.

First time viewer of this particular channel and I have to say, this was a fun little video that I really enjoyed. I love the relaxed voiceover style and it's nice to see these types of videos being made for sportscars. Keep up the good work!

nice vid! I think that of the LMDH"s Cadillac's aesthetics best translate to the regulations. Regarding combined hypercar classes, I think the Ferrari 499p takes the cake with the Peugeot 9x8 following close behind. I love the nods to the daytona sp3 and the 330 p4 in the front end, and the rear of the side of the car is a work of genius, the way the red on carbon fiber creates a sort of 70s prototype silhouette from the rear when viewed from the side is beautiful. Red and yellow just works as a color combo on nearly any livery.

i appreciate most of the manufacturers taking design cues from their road cars. can't really say the same about Porsche/Ferrari/Toyota, though they still look alright

I don't disagree, that was one of the key aspects of the LMDh regulations. Porsche... There are some ways you can tie the 963 back to their road cars but I think it's tenuous. Agree with you on the Ferrari 100%. Toyota... Well, I guess the argument could be made that their Hypercar is built specifically to be a Hypercar with no concern for aesthetics. Kind of like their road cars. Built to get you from A to B as long as you don't die of boredom on the way there.

I think it’s really great that we have a car that looks like something out of Group C (the Porsche) and a car that looks like a super modern spaceship (the Acura), running together with relatively close pace. I can’t wait to see the Lambo next year

Yeah Lambo has always gone for it with their road car designs. Hope it doesn't look too similar to the Acura though.

I would say that the Porsche 963 actually reminds me of the (which model number was it? 995...? oh well) Porsche GT1 of old. On the GT1, the rear had the (please forgive my lacking vocabulary here) inner piece with the taillights surrounded by an outer piece that, when you looked from the side, it looked as if that inner part almost sat in a jaw. I'm seeing something like that with the 963 if I squint a little. The GT1 also had its taillights inside a horizontal bar, like on the 963 (the taillights were just in the sides of the bar, but still) P.S. Forgot to say, thank you for this nice little video!

Thanks. I think your terms are as good as any, outside of people who do this sort of thing for a living the most common terms usually are "that squiggly bit" or "the red thing over there", so any specificity beyond that is a plus. I think the GT1 tied back to the current 911 design much better (perhaps unsurprisingly given its competition and the regulations at the time) and actually used stock (or near stock) headlamps and taillamps at least in its second iteration. The more I look at the 963 the more okay i feel about it but there's just something exciting missing that I feel when I see the 919 or a GT1 or, ideally, a 917 or 906

For Cadillac I really love the non works team livery, it's beautiful. As for their brand fidelity, tbh the shape of the front of the Cadillac resembles more a Corvette than a Cadillac, specially when looking to the front from the side

By non-works-team are you referring to the Whelen red livery? Don't disagree with you on the Corvette resemblance - honestly I'm a bit surprised they didn't take the opportunity to revive the XLR and call the V-Series an XLR-P or something. Wouldn't have changed the Corvette resemblance but it would have at least gotten them closer to having something else in the same general aesthetic realm.

For me bmw,caddy,acura and porsche, bmw looks some what like the roadcar the most and it looks amazing with that aggression, caddy entire design is ond of my favorites in the industry the sharp lines mean their cars past 2016 just refuse to age, acura still looks like the dpi which is a bit boring and its livery has beeb seen already, porsche i agree with everything you said, especially with the headlights , maybe if they gave the headlights that circular porsche look it could have looked better

I’m sorry but I can’t pick any one of these cars over any of the others. It like trying to pick the best looking centerfold. They all got to be centerfolds because they are all gorgeous. Try picking one and you descend into paralysis by analysis. Being a sports prototype fanboy, I can’t wait for IMSA to arrive at Road America, my home track. I will be there bright and early to see these in the flesh

The porsche would have look so much better with round 992 headlights, it was in second place to me after the Cadillac but now is 3rd because the Ferrari look the most Badass imo, Ferrari looks like a real Villan car

Ah, but the Ferrari is a Hypercar. I'll cover those in a separate video. I'd be interested to see the Porsche rendered with the 992 headlamps because I agree, it probably would make a big difference.

My list is similar. The Cadillac and Acura are really close. IMO 1. BMW 2. Cadillac 3. Acura 4. Porsche

Yep, as with everything it comes down to personal choice. I think the livery between the Cadillac and the Acura has a huge bearing on which features of the vehicle are accentuated vs which aren't, and it would be easy to make the Acura's rather busy body styling look much worse than it does. A bit more contrast on the Caddys to draw further distinction to those canards wouldn't hurt either

That's fair. I think my biggest issue with the Porsche is that (opinion) there's too much negative space between the headlamp arrays and the openings on top of the wheel arches. The Penske Porsches put some branding there which helps slightly but that, combined with the very rounded shape of the nose, just feels like a lost opportunity. Agree that the Cadillac looks fast - I had it even in body shape with the BMW for scoring but it lost points in my scoring matrix on brand fidelity and for playing the design a bit safe.

For me it's almost the opposite. 1) Porsche 963. Rivals the 9x8 in looks honestly. 2) Acura arx 06. The front. 3) Cadillac V. Not below the BMW 🗿 4) BMW. The front and back just ain't it.
