Thanks for the video. As a retired electronics teacher I like your approach. I noticed the divide problems mentioned in other comments. That leaves the student to find out on their own. Something like this is still the basics for more complicated modern ICs. We always had lab work for students to practice what they learned. It's invaluable.

Very good video! You really need a solderless breadboard and not be afraid to experiment. That's the best way to learn so great advice. An adjustable CURRENT LIMITING power supply is a MUST as well. It's nice to not fry components in case of a mishap. Thanks for sharing and hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Just go and do. What a great philosophy. No better way to learn what to do and what NOT to do.

Nice video as always. Can you cascade the overflow to a 2nd bit counter and expand into a 16-bit counter?

Only problem is that these days discrete logic chips like this are hardly ever used. It's either in a microprocessor or an FPGA for high end hardware.

it is sad, but there is no reason to use this stuff. good to know if you need to repair old stuff. I hope the new doctors still know how to repair me.

They can use this as divide by N in a PLL loop; though the speed is very low for today's applications . Also a good exercise would be to put two of these to get 16 bit counter.

A fine chip but limited to 4 bits

Ha, your counts weren’t what you expected. When you loaded in FE, you got the divide by 2 as expected. But then when you loaded in FD, you would get divide by 3, not 4 as you thought. Even the scope was showing divide by 3. Then for FB it would be 5, and F7 would be 8.
