Nice demo, but how about showing a S21 measurement with the ferrite bead? After all, that’s what you would use it for, not S11.

If you’re not keen on the S21 measurement, how about using that 14-bit Keysight scope and showing a frequency response plot using the ferrite bead as the DUT? At least that would be some test equipment pr0n. You could compare that to the MSO5000 doing the same. ;-)

It's interesting to see the wide tolerances on ferrites. I used to use a Fair-rite 1206 ferrite for squashing some EMC issues in sensor designs. After some surprises where prototypes passed EMC, but the production samples didn't, I started watching the values of the individual ferrites in my kit. In marginal cases, I really had to make sure that the DUT passed with ferrites with the lowest impedance. The published tolerance on the ferrites was 25%, if memory serves.

You are right. Initially, I thought it was the pen scratching on the paper. He enjoys what he has been doing, learns, and teaches everyone. He is a great teacher. De VU2RZA

Nice "EDA" there. I still have my Staedtler-Mars from 50 years ago.

Despite inflation we far from the time when a handful of beads could purchase a substantial piece of real estate.

where does one find that schematic trace guide plastic thingy? looks super handy.
Used a VNA, STILL managed not to measure it at 100Mhz 😅

(We like the VNA...)

But…but…but….what was it at 100MHz? I tried to stop your screen and it was around 90 ohms at 90 some MHz. Not quite the 60 ohms as stated. Should have been 110 (50+60).
@IMSAIGuy2 күн бұрын
you are right, I should have stopped at 100, at 200 it was 125ohms. so it looks like the 60ohms is pretty good.
