Its a shame that these start at 35mhz, especially if you only work in the 10/11m HF bands, i have the Tiny SA but sm hoping for a TinySA version to be released that has a tracking generator..fingers crossed. ✌️ 🇦🇺 🪃

if you want SA + tracking generator, just use the NanoVNA. S21 measurement is the same thing.

I suspect the 5V from the laptop is injecting noise into the S.A. If you construct a DC 5Vsupply based off of a battery (nothing quieter than a battery) and power the SA with that quiet supply, the auto sweep noise might disappear. A hacked USB cable is required for this. Also disconnect the laptop charger. The black wire USB ground must connected to the external Batt supply and the Laptop and S.A.

as it can be seen in the picture you showed at the end, the pcb has only one ADF chip on it so it can be either in Sweep/Scan mode or ouput signal from LO not both at the same time (it has one ADF chip which generates signal for LO, or become a signal generator to output) some other boards have two ADF chip and can be both (tracking generator work fine on them) but not this knock off (of another chinese knock off). waste of money time and hope/expectation !

The notch at 300MHz is by design. It uses direct conversion where zero frequency is effectively filtered by coupling capacitors or transformers / rf switches used. If it would be DC coupled, it would saturate the amplifier with DC offset. Cheap is cheap. And missed harmonic is simply because steps don't cover whole swept band correctly. I analyzed this device about year ago but found this video just today.

so many of these USB Spectrum Analyzers with Tracking. I recently bougth a D6 Azeroth WindWhisper model JTGP1033 revision 3.01A. and was hoping on finding a Review on this type. Also to use with SNA Sharp software. Thanks Again for all your great videos.

Another reason I hate the waste of resources in regards to robbing property rights in regards to parts and access to use of smartphones for their way more cost effective when purchased as a whole used parts... especially now they're larger almost like a small tablet seems. A universal CSI adapter for cameras and whatever is used for the screens would be excellent. Great would be just access at least to those parts via the USB ports at the least and like an API or some way to interface. Crazy how societies being robbed into "leasing" or something property they purchase to own since like the 1980's and later maybe coinciding with selling U.S. Jurisdictions property to foreign owners??? What??? Insurgency or something seems? No code and no rights to the IC's capabilities? What the malicious foreign agents?

I like my HackRF better compared in regards to the USB SDR devices. I still haven't even taken the Adalm Pluto out of the box as I'd like to get a little better skilled so I can hack the HackRF to improve performance and same with the Pluto to expand the frequency range as well.

at very ;east the software is JUNK. the notch 'may' be and inversion due to a numerical error - but well I would not count on it.

Nope, sorry the "mysterious" dip in the response to a single tone is known to this and other similar cheap devices. The dip occurs when the displayed mixed IF becomes zero or DC, which happens when the tone and the sweep frequency become equal during the sweep with the seond sweep generator on board. This is because towards the very low frequency mixing product (including DC) will not make through the detection highpass. Therefore calling this a spectrum analyzer seems a slightly false advertisement. Due to the simple design there is no way to get rid of it, which why real spectrum analyzers have multiple mixers and IF's. And yeah the resolution bandwidth is another story. The tracking generator outputs a square wave which has lots of harmonics, which coincidently do not interfere with the analyzer part, but still... The best part is unfortunately just the shiny box :) On second thought, I believe this could be corrected in software using a simple inverse (Wiener) filter together with the characteristics of the highpass in the detection path. Only the exact zero (DC) case would cause a singularity and needs interpolation which is simple...
