I went the last week of August, and the cutting was HORRIBLE for me. I had to hold my arms out, holding onto the rails, to stop people from shoving and cutting to the front. I was constantly pushed and it got old fast. It wore me out mentally. The park itself though is super fun and beautiful. And I ABSOLUTELY loved the Toy Story hotel! I stayed in it for three nights and didn't want to leave!

Juujuu gurl same hahahahha I am a Chinese myself but not from China and I'm really embarrassed of the horrible things the locals did ughhhhh I'm so sick and tired of people lying they have friends in front when they just want to cut lines....

That's why some people who has been there said that foreigners should be more patient when dealing with the locals cause it'll just exhaust you mentally if you keep getting irritated at every single annoying thing they do

I'm surprised people would be so quick to complain and judge how people act in China when it's SO different from many countries, especially USA! I'm grateful you brought up the fact that it's made for a different target audience and how the park is different! I'm even more excited to visit Shanghai someday!

The crowd wasn't bad. I went on a Saturday. People cutting in line, or rather, "trying" to cut in line, yes there were times. I was with my cousin and we both workout, so we were able to block people from cutting in front of us. lol. The experience was still magical and definitely exceeded my expectations. You can definitely notice that Shanghai Disneyland came up with some solutions for crowd control.

Had the best experience in Tokyo Disneyland/DisneySea. Cast members are super nice, can understand when you want to be single rider, etc. Guests are super behaved, even though majority of the attractions had 80+ min wait times people never pushed or shoved. The FP lines were all super organized all thanks to the guest being behaved. Also they clean up after themselves, I saw a guest drop a whole bucket of popcorn and they cleaned it up w/o waiting for someone to clean it up. As a former Disneyland Anaheim Cast Member this is unheard of. You really see the awesomeness of it all and of course would def go again :D

Something I really liked in Shanghai was that they upgraded the park layout so it would be a better experience for shows and parades. The front of the castle is almost like a huge walkable bleacher so everyone has a good view for the fireworks and the layout of lands and main street is like no other Disney Park

Regarding the in-park food, the idea behind Western cuisine is a direct response to information received from the local clientele who preferred Western food vs. local Shanghainese food. The idea being if we are going to welcome a Western experience such as Disney, then we want the full experience. It is not to say that Chinese food isn't available in the park. In fact, it's plentiful. My favorite place to eat in park is exclusively Chinese quick service.
@bingboyify

jonmwailin i am chinese local and i prefer having more western food in the park as well because chinese food is always available outside the park and i want something different. But it seems disney refuses to serve pasta but only chinese noodles in this park :(

👍. We are taking our 2yr old to Hong Kong Disney in 5weeks and will be there for Halloween. So it will be interesting to see the cultural difference between Hong Kong and mainland china/ this vlog. Also as HKD is the smallest of all the parks the crowds will be a lot smaller so I think we will enjoy our time there. One thing I'm looking forward to at HKD is going on jungle cruise in all 3 languages. Do you have any future plans on going to HKD?

Really appreciate your comments on native Chinese people. As an American -born Chinese, I can be quick to judge and easily get frustrated with their behavior. But you helped me understand that even though we're the same ethnicity, we probably have very different upbringings and ways of life. And neither is necessarily right or wrong. :)

Out of Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai, I was surprised to find that Shanghai was actually the best catered to Vegetarians. Not every restaurant had an option, but it was definitely more than Tokyo which only had one veggie meal in one restaurant in each park. I saw one English speaking family, but besides that I was the odd one out, especially with my blonde hair and I got lots of attention from the Cast Members. Shanghai is definitely the most beautiful park

Shanghai Disneyland reminds me of Disneyland Paris, but if it had the chance to develop and grow. I know it has only been open for a year, but the fact that it has been a financially successful year makes all the difference. Shanghai probably won't have to wait 20+ years to get a new ride built from the ground up.

people are probably curious about the food there as the Tokyo parks have very "american" foods throughout the park even though their main demo are locals too. there isn't any traditional japanese food in the park really because the parks are designed to make you feel like you're in another world rather than just in the middle of japan. from memory i think hong kong had quite a variety of foods too. but this video was really interesting i really wanna go to shanghai disney!! loved all your videos from the park!! being from australia the asian parks are much closer to me so i feel like i'm going to be weirded out at the american parks when i eventually get there as ill be comparing them to HK and Tokyo instead haha
@bingboyify

Actually every restaurant in Shanghai Disneyland has 3-4 groups of menu. each group has 3 -4 choices of entrees for you to choose from. and i noticed usually 3 groups are Asian food (Chinese, Singaporean and Japanese usually), and there is always another 1 group of menu for American food like BBQ ribs, Fish & Chips, and Roasted Chicken or Pizzas, etc. So you can definitely get western food in every restaurant in Shanghai Disneyland , its just the choices of Asian foods are much bigger. The only disappoint for me is i couldn't find any Pastas but only Chinese noodles. Oh , and the Stargazer restaurant at Tomorrowland is dedicated to American food only so you have a wide choices of Burgers and Fried Chicken meals. (I am Chinese living in Shanghai btw)

As an American, and having lived my whole life (64 years) in Los Angeles, I would encourage you to visit Disneyland in Anaheim first if you want to experience the original authentic Disneyland experience. After all, it was the first Disneyland ever built and you will best be able to see how others are different. No Disneyland is better or worse than another. They are just different.

I heard that at other Disney parks around the world, they had local food at first, but people weren't interested, because they wanted american food at an american park, so it's interesting that's not the case in China.

Went to both Tokyo Disneyland last year and Shanghai Disneyland and I gotta say: if I had to choose one I'd choose Shanghai Disneyland every time. Tokyo Disneyland is very much like Disneyland in California, nothing wrong with that, but sort of "same same" if you've been. Shanghai Disneyland is different, and that makes it interesting. You're right, the Tron ride is INCREDIBLE. Only went on it once (had only one day at the park) but it's the best Disney coaster I've been on, bar none. As for Pirates, you are spot on as well, it's incredible. It's kinda like the mechanics of the Frozen ride at Epcot, but better. Everything is huge and SO immersive. They also have a Soarin ride, it was the equivalent of that at Epcot, with some different imagery, but the queue line is really cool, you're in some kind of Mayan temple or something.

As a Chinese person living in Shanghai but used to live in the US one thing I found surprised is Chinese young people really love Duffy bears in this park. Was that a thing in American parks?? I've never heard of this bear before...and it actually does not look very Disney-ish...
@Sammyyaam
@Sammyyaam 6 жыл бұрын
It isn't. I think Tokyo Disney has a bear mascot too. It's really strange how obsessed they get over that bear and I think there's a cat too. It must be only in Asia Disneylands. It's like the park's mascot or something and people bumrush the Disney stores to get the merch. I agree it is a bit strange since it's not really Disney.

Duffy the Disney bear is a Disney Parks thing. He doesn't really exist outside the parks, but inside the parks, kids love him. He was definitely in America three years ago when I went to Disney World (he had SUCH a presence at Epcot. Meet and greets and so much mechanise), but GE was completely absent from Disneyland (in Anaheim) when I was there this summer, so he may still be in Florida, but he also could have been moved out of Disney's American parks completely.

I've only really been to Disneyland Paris and the behaviour there is not the best either there are quite a lot of rude people and you really have to defend your place inline like I was in the queue for dumbo and this woman stopped to take a picture of her kid and loads of us walked past her she then chose you push past us all using her kid to push us and she got back to her place. But it's still my favourite Disney Park and I guess I'm used to that sort of thing since I live in a European country.

and about the comment on the uncivilized behaviors, they are not necessarily from the rural area, I think they reason why some people do that is the educated levels of people are various in China, some people are more educated than others (and yes, comparatively more people from first tier cities like SH are educated than other tiers of the cites). If you spend more time in the city, you will probably like it more when you know more about the culture and the society. (But your main goal was to the park so...)

Question, if most Disney movies aren't released in China and they don't know who most of the characters are why build a Disney park there? It just seems a little weird.

China is highly populated, so they likely knew they'd have high attendance. From what I can tell, Chinese people don't go to the park because of a connection to Disney, they enjoy seeing new things and experiencing fun attractions. It's just a fun thing to them, regardless if they know all the characters. Still they put a lot of the stuff they DO know there - like an entire Pirates land, Snow White Castle walk thru and the Alice maze.

The more important question is why would the Disney company collaborate with the Chinese Communist Party to build a theme park?

Small children releaving themselves is not a problem specific to shanghai disney. I was a cp In disney world and out would happen sometimes. I was in quick service so I never saw it while working thankfully but did just wondering the park. I was waiting for tea party once and this kid walked away for mom climbs a wall and shat in the Alice themed planters.

The Spanish in Disneyland Paris are so incredibly rude lol on my last trip I was cut by Spanish people 10 times in one day, they also talk through shows and just scream constantly. Obviously not all Spanish ppl but a large majority. If you’re ever planning on making a trip to DLP would recommend u check if it’s a Spanish holiday

OK here it's my impression about the park: it is really beautiful, it feels really magical and so Disney obviously, but I don't have the same opinion as yours about cast members. I went to the park in summer which is the worst idea ever, mid July and Shanghai feels like hell 38℃ and humidity makes it worse because you don't have anywhere to hide, it is super crowded and most of the queues are outdoors. Fastpasses are located in only one specific area for each themed land. not outside the attractions as they are in other parks. That makes your wait on the lines way longer than expected, for example if you try to queue to get IDK a fast pass for a ride with 80 min standby line but it is in the same land as Soaring which has a wait of 180 min, it is faster to do that 80 min wait because you'll spend the same time in the line due to all the people who want to get Soaring fast passes. Cast members do not speak a word of English and they don't make an effort to understand you, they just go or say no (which is as far as I know prohibited to say if you're a cast member), it seems like they can't handle the pressure. To get one person who could speak English to us we had 6 members and they really didn't know what to do. Chinese people are going to take that park to its ruin if they don't keep it clean, they litter everywhere, they see an empty space and suddenly lots of garbage appear, so disappointed of that. If I ever get the chance to go to that park again I will go after the golden week ends so I don't have to deal with all the crowd and horrible weather. Also merchandise felt kind of cheap and damaged. Not a great quality honestly.

Oh Americans too have their fair share of rudeness and bad mannerisms in their own Disney parks. Americans do cut in line and line jump from standby to fastpass..not just as obvious as the Chinese probably. They have their own sneaky way to do it.
