I danced from age 2 until my late 20's and there were no competitions that I was aware of. We performed ballets and auditions, but never went to a competition. I don't know if that was just were I studied or not, but ballet is an artform, never an official competition. The only competition were my peers.

Hi Sara, Although I never danced professionally (wrong feet, wrong ankles, grew to almost 6 feet in my last 2 years, etc, etc), the joy of expressing myself through dance has always remained with me. While I love to watch the "Young prodigies", you remain my favourite dancer because of the emotional side that you present. Of course, your technique is amazing, but it's your artistry that captures me. I often feel close to tears (in a good way!) when I see you dance. You are beautiful inside & out, & I love that young dancers who follow/watch you, are exposed to your artistry & your emotional connection to dance.

The part where she talked about injuries got to me. My family didn't have the money for all of us to do dance and the things we wanted to growing up so I started doing ballet later in life when I paid for it myself. I just this week broke my foot and it was really a tough thing to take. But it's true. I'll get back at it once I'm healed-and in the meantime I can focus on other things that will make me a stronger dancer when I come back.

+Vivian Alpert I started ballet about a couple years ago. You are a little old (as am I) to consider ballet as a career, however, you're never too old to start dancing.
@denise39739 жыл бұрын
Just dance. If it's inside you, let it out. Feel the music. Rise up. I've been dancing ballet since I was two. I'm 49 now and it's still a big part of my life. Don't think in terms of career or longevity, it's simply joy. I hope you begin soon.

wow so inspiring and that is why I love dancing. I am planning to do dance therapy after I have finished occupational therapy. I am a bit nervous as I am competing with professional dancers. But I feel like I am flying when I am dancing. I love it when people come up to me and tell me that they were entranced when they watch me dance. At the moment I am doing freestyle and tribal. I also love belly dance.

Sniff. Brings back painful memories of moving to NYC and taking classes. Having the passion ten fold, but handicapped by tendonitis and the absence of any kind of self esteem. Having the means, but absolutely no guidance or emotional support by teachers or family. Having the technique and style, but feeling inadequate because of my height. I quit and moved back home, and spent the next thirty years in deep depression. I imagine that for every single dancer that does make it, she feels enough joy for all the thousands or tens of thousands that quit. At least, I hope so. This video makes me feel so. Merde! (do they still say that?)

Lolita Chimichanga there are many other ways to dance though? i was refused to go t ballet lessons when i was younger as i was too tall - now i am 6ft 1! (girl!)... and though I half would love to be there - i also know i wouldn't like the regime.. at the age of 33 i am now realising that i LOVE dancng and am making changes in my life in order to bring it into my life some how and also share it with others - whereas in some way ballet does that , i wish to share with other and encourage others to do it, in a less elite way - yes she ways no competition but thats rubbish - there is in the very nature - because not everyone can be a dancer with NYC ballet eh?... anyway i wish you well - what are you doing now!? xxx

This is beautiful, but I really wish that professional dancers would set a good example by allowing their heels to touch the ground while jumping. Serious tendon injuries plagued NYCB a couple years ago, and the lack of heels touching the ground between jumps was the main cause.

Don't do what they tell you to do- tell them to p*ss off or turn the tables and dare the main antagonist to do something hard. You keep working away and ignore these nasty idiots- if you don't you'll regret not telling them where to get off when you're older- trust me: it happened to me a little bit doing gymnastics and I wish I had told them to p*ss off even now.
