Thank you to all concerned for reporting and filming our family's story so sensitively. We have lived in New Zealand for over fifty years, I was born in Shipley and my wife in Low Moor. My sister visited the UK years ago and located the grave then. It was badly overgrown but with the help of my cousin cleared the site. Jabez's father, John Lumb my 4X great grandfather, was the Verger of All Saints Church. Another incident in Martha's life occurred when she was robbed of her purse containing 8s6d whilst trying to help a lady, this was reported in the Leeds Times 14 November 1868. Thanks again, Peter Lumb

@@BradfordThroughTheLens Hi , there were 3 surviving children. James , my Great grandfather who found the boys . Married and had 4 children . He died age 68 in 1924 . He was a joiner and builder and a member of the Endeavour lodge of the NIOOF ( Oddfellows ) and was presented with a clock as a mark of esteem for services as Treasurer for 11 years. I still have the clock. Another son Jabez Bancroft never married he too was a joiner. The 3rd child, a daughter, Julia Hannah white married and had 1 daughter. Kind regards Peter Lumb.

Thanks, guys, for taking the time to prepare, edit and publish this. I left Bradford in 1967 at 22 years of age, and spent the next 55 years in Western Australia. But commentaries like this prove the old adage "You can take the lad out of Bradford but you'll never take the Bradford out of the lad".

Churches among other public buildings were heated with coke which was what was left after the gas was removed. As it was waste it was sold off at around 10 shillings a ton! Coke fumes are incredibly toxic as they contain a high amount of carbon monoxide. The fathers bronchitis was probably due to the coke fumes as the furnaces were kept alight all week and he would be exposed to the fumes several times a day. Sadly such tragedies were all to common.

Jabez, appears to have been quite a popular name at one point......I've a few with that name in my family tree. Noah, Moses & Aaron were also popular names......my gt grandfather was called Moses and his brother was called Aaron. Aaron later became vicar of Denholme. I've not seen a resurgence of the names Jabez or Moses, but some children do still get named Aaron, and Noah is a very popular name at the moment.
