In Bruges and 7 psychopaths were marketed as Tarantino ripoffs when that’s not even remotely what they are.
@nathanslay63422 ай бұрын
In Bruges is definitely a really good film. Filled with glorious dark comedy, great acting, great direction, great dialogue, solid drama, thoughtful themes, and a really good story! I can’t stop thinking about it. I want to rewatch it after the ending.

This was a perfect movie. Great actors, gorgeous cinematography, catchy score, and a screenplay with absolutely no fat. The "Cause and Effect" were executed to perfection regarding Harry's choice of purchasing "dum-dums" (the bullets that make the head explode) with his principle of killing himself if he would ever accidentally kill a kid. Down to how pivotal even the innocuous-seeming scene of Ken having to break a note as he was unable to get rid of his coins. This movie will makes you laugh, cry, cringe, and think. In my opinion, this should be mandatory viewing to all up-and-coming filmmakers. Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes are sublime in this film. A perfect movie.

In Bruges is a masterpiece. A perfect film, which for a first feature by Martin is astonishing. Ralph Fiennes deserved a supporting actor nod, as well as for cinematography and best picture. One of the few movies with an ending that genuinely terrified me - it really struck a chord. I was raised in a very religious environment and though I’ve done my best to get rid of the dogma and trauma, certain fears remain from childhood, and this one quietly touched that nerve to the point where I’ve never been able to rewatch it.

The reason that so many people have never heard of this movie is that it was released in the local art theater, not picked up by the big cinema chains. You really have to keep your eyes open to keep on top of these movies. Unfortunately, it's going to get worse as more theaters close and people turn to streaming services to watch new release movies.

"In Bruges: One of the best movies of the last 20 years?". Or a lift of The Dumbwaiter by Harold Pinter? Since almost no-one watches theatre from the 1960's it's quite easy to steal ideas and then just make the characters Irish and sweary. Then again, it's not like the writer had a history in playwriting and knew about his obvious plaigarism....
