First real book I read filched from my mother’s bedside table: Here I Stand by Paul Robeson, I was nine years old. Precocious. Read everything, bored with comic books, bored with fairy tales. Shortly thereafter, a child growing up in Bronzeville, Chicago - I refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, refused to sing My Country Tis of Thee. Memory is everything. Culture has to stand on something before, something worth remembering. Here I Stand changed my life in so many ways and I’m still trying to complete my assignment. Ase’O❤

Thank you Dr. Carr and Prof. Karen Hunter for clarifying "the culture". The culture is more than food and music; it's how we govern ourselves. How we parent our children, how we treat our elders.

Because of the negative experiences that many people have had with our miseducation system, they are often turned off by anything that's considered academic. We have to at least try to meet people where they are and then patiently and lovingly elevate them. If a rap beef gets people to thinking, engaging with words and ingesting something beyond b(s) a w(s) and sex and drugs, I'm here for it. Even those of us consider ourselves well educated have to step out of our head space and lead with our hearts. Embrace the common person with love and kindness. There's good in the worst of us, and bad in the best of us. (Don't remember the person that made this quote famous, but anywho. Much love and light to Professors Carr and Hunter and the global Knarrative community. 💜🙏🏽

Thanks Professor K.Hunter and Dr. G Carr you guys are awesome. When we understand that we were always told who we were as a people. I look at it who is you too tell me who I am. As M. Garbee says when we understand the greatness of our people's and stop 🛑 disrespecting ourselves. We are a genius people just look at the priymaids that our ancestors built that's why we were taken from the mother land and brought to America to build this country. That's our culture we Mason's Build. Sankofor 🌍

This was so interesting. I had to really think about how Dr Carr defined for the Culture in my humble opinion I am thinking that we need to be careful cuz for the culture really benefit the ruling class as the stay making millions from the so-called beef. Very profound. Thank you Dr Carr and Prof Hunter. Blessings always

Two things: [1] As Greg said, the culture is what we do. Moreover, culture is not only what we do, but the things we deem important enough to preserve and pass on to the next generation. For example, the issue of hairstyling came up as a cultural phenomenon. We have always found ways to style our hair despite what mainstream society said or thought about it. ⚫ [2] Karen said that she is not the same person she was 20+ years ago. We are always the same people, we just evolve as we learn more about what it means to be who we want to be. So, we are an evolved version of who we were. Similarly, our cultural habits and norms also evolve with each generation.💞💞💞

I am here for the students reading and researching cultural topics. The stories/curriculums that we use in our classroom are not interesting and the students are not motivated and there’s no connection. I’m literally tap dancing, performing in the classroom in order to reach my students, to motivate, encourage them to read or do their class work.

There were two other Negro Baseball players that lived across the street from me in Queens where I grew up. Culture should honor you, your people and your ancestors . See, there are basically two kinds of Philosophy - one's called prickly, the other one is called goo. Prickly people believe in particles, goo people believe in waves. They always argue with each other but what they don't realize is neither one of them can take their position without their opposition being there. Life is not prickles or goo, its gooey-prickles or prickly-goo. Alan Watts

Exactly. Im done with them. The generational divide is just too wide for me to bridge. But perhaps someone else can bridge. Ive sen too much; I know what I know. Of all the things to talk about, THIS is what they do. There's just way too much information, way too many persons willing to educate to elevate. Ive been backstage with them; Ive seen them pour money down the drain; Ive seen them ignore Black professionals and stay sitting in the laps of the Europes. My Granny already told me: everybody talking about heaven aint going. Well, everybody talking about the culture is not about the culture which is the best in all of us. Hip Hop just seems detrmined to be an agent of COINTELPRO.
