Whether you lean to the left or the right, you cannot deny JRM is a man of conviction. One day - not soon, or even within the next few years, but one day he will lead our country and I will stand by him 100%.

I totally agree. A friend of mine who has been a life long Labour supporter recently said he doesn’t agree with all of Jacob’s positions, but he considers him a man of conviction and admires him tremendously. I had the pleasure of meeting JRM in 2016 during the EU referendum, and I can honestly say he was real gentlemen.

He's a fucking hypocrite. But pro Brexit (with which I personally agree albeit it having been to my detriment as an expat). What other of his policies do you agree on?
@malpreece5008
@malpreece5008 6 жыл бұрын
tamsinthai Well done for supporting Brexit as an expat, that's very noble of you. Of course the main reason I agree with Rees-Mogg is because of his stance on Brexit, because it's an all pervasive issue that will impact upon the UK in many different ways. However, I agree with him on reducing corporation tax, increasing the income tax allowance threshold, reducing foreign aid, his advocation of small government, and his general disdain of 'political correctness'. Also, I agree with a lot of his personal views on morality, but no doubt I'll only get put down for being an out of touch traditionalist if I share any of those views on here! Anyway, hope that answers your question.

About as clear and concise as you can get; he speaks in a very straightforward manner, which, only 30 years ago, would have made him a very bland and unexceptional MP, as so many spoke the same way then......but cometh the moment cometh the man, and he IS a man of the people, not in spite of his background, but more precisely BECAUSE of his background!

I don't agree with some of his views but I like the man because he's quite consistent with his positions. I can respect that far more than a politician who changes their mind depending on what is popular at the time and I think an increasing number of British people are feeling the same way. This is why we saw the rise of Farage and the current popularity of Boris Johnson.
@laughingachilles
@laughingachilles 6 жыл бұрын
The quality of someones views is a little subjective and people on each side will consider their to be superior, but I never made a claim about the quality of his views, I merely pointed out that someone being consistent is something I can respect. It also means the person can be easier to deal with and predict, which is useful when you are voting for them.

Laughing Achilles - Totally agree. Currently if someone moans the government changes it's mind. Which has led to this state of constant offence. So I get his appeal. Personally I don't like him, but I like to listen because he's clearly intelligent. Unfortunately I can never see the benefits in the conservative approach
@laughingachilles
@laughingachilles 6 жыл бұрын
I've never understood the idea of conservative and liberal labels when most people are a mixture of views, so when you say the conservative approach I'm unsure as to what you mean. For example I believe in long prison sentences for serious offenders, but I also believe we need a better approach to rehabilitation. One of these views is traditionally left leaning and the other is right, to me it's about pragmatism and the politics are an afterthought.
@mikebassett9195

diversity based upon real freedoms of choice , opinion and thought , if people want a more so called diverse government feel free to run for a government seat but it should be under the premise of upholding the locals and at the same time put the national culture first rather than personal ideal leanings , just as mogg has done he doesn't seek to change laws to suit his own opinions because he disagrees with a democraticlly passed regulation , if a debate needs to happen and such issues let them be debated but be prepaired to be offended and take it on the chin. (unlike those regressive liberals who want to just bypass the debate and go right to the passing of Regulations and law without the debate ever happening or the debate being shut down via disruptive protest jerring or in antfifas case directly interrupting a open debate, in times like this a more civil approach is needed not more social justice warriors using PC arguments)

*ignores the anarchist* *ignores the commy* It's an obvious issue. If you're highly capable, as a leader should be... then you're unlikely to end up poor in the first place. At most someone can be born poor, but most of those quickly abandon the poor life and can't speak for the poor anymore. Seems that often the best advocates are those rare rich people who have an affinity for the poor. Trump (like him or hate him) has that. Roman populists like the Gracchi, Marius and Caesar had that. And the worst are the ones who claim to speak for the poor, but who have no affinity for them. Notably, bourgeouis marxists. It's easy to see the appeal, but its record is that everyone becomes dirt poor after the poorest 10% have been massacred, while somehow the party becomes filthy rich.

I listened again to this conversation and regarding a lift in the Elizabeth Tower I think it can be done if people will put up with a little inconvenience in order to have a great deal of convenience. One simply installs 1 elevator which goes 1/2 way up. The people disembark to take another which goes to the remaining floors. A great deal more convenient than having to climb to the top.

Those answers were why I joined the Conservative party back in 1982 sadly I did not agree with a lot of Margaret Thatcher's later anti union policies and left the party. But I believe that Jacob Rees- Mogg is an honourable man and his ideals show through his answers I think he would make a great Prime minister after Boris Johnson who as much as I like him, has not handled the Covid19 crisis particularly well, but I also believe that Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Party would have made a pigs breakfast of it.

I really do not like the format of posing two (unrelated) questions at a time to the guest speaker. It puts him under unnecessary pressure. It does not allow him, or the audience, to give their full attention to each question in turn. However, if you do not agree with me on this, then perhaps you should go further, and adopt the format used on many news programs, by which I mean: text headings at the top of the screen, “crawler” text along the bottom, and a video playing in the background. All these innovations seem designed to make peaceful concentration difficult, if not impossible.

How can you have 'maternity' or 'paternity' pay for MPs? This would have two consequences: either no representation IN PARLIAMENT, whilst the politician was absent, or the replacement of the missing MP by someone not ELECTED to fulfil that role! The role of an MP is unique: and they need to accept that 'uniqueness' when they stand for Parliament.
@sorsocksfake
@sorsocksfake 6 жыл бұрын
Kind of the reverse, I suspect. Whether or not you pay, they'll take that time off. The pay is to make sure their staff can do its job so that they'll remain up-to-date. Imo there might be a reasonable compromise now: allow parlementarians in certain situations to work from home. We have the tech to do that. But it's a reasonable statement that you shouldn't run for MP if you plan on getting pregnant... it's a medical condition, and if you know you're gonna be sick for half a year or more, would you run for office? I don't think that's responsible.

Being an atheist, I don't agree with Mogg's social positions, but agree with virtually all of his other positions, especially on economics, free trade and Brexit. Also, what I like about him in comparison to other social conservatives (Particularly the Republican in America) is that he doesn't want to force his potions onto to other people or force socially conservative polices on the electorate, rather he votes his conscience on those issues and would have other MP's do the same if he were party leader. I think he's an extraordinarily mature, pragmatic and articulate politician in an era that's becoming increasingly partisan and dumbed down.

54:45 - Building Houses. Building more houses for a population that is growing by over 300'000 every single year through mass immigration is not sustainable if we want to feed future generations _[arable land],_ for even a child understands that you must first plug the holes in a bucket before filling it. Therefore, to satisfy any demand you must first stabilise that demand and not fuel it by building homes that only draw more and more people from abroad. The same goes for school places, NHS care, welfare and so on and so forth.

Hi S Z All parties need to come together and make some solid decisions regarding where our nation is going, rather than focussing on their term in office. Unless we do something about controlling the demand for housing, jobs, school places, healthcare and welfare etc... it can never be satisfy but only drives demand. Our leaders seem to have forgotten that they were mandated to serve *the very electorate* who voted them into power in the first place, which is the foundation of both citizenship _[nothing to do with race]_ and thus democracy. If anyone can become a citizen by planting their foot on British soil, then the very Parliamentary Democracy that has stayed off the oppression we see elsewhere, is dead.

When people understand that having gone to all of the trouble and expense of getting here only to be sent home, it will reduce dramatically. I realise it would take time to make such agreements with other nations but wonder if it has even begun. Currently they are crossing the Channel but we all know that once that route has been closed it only going to be a matter of time before entering the EU enclave of Southern Ireland, they cross in boats to Wales else just walk across the border into Northern Ireland to demand British citizenship. Then, deportations maybe the only card we have left.

I have listened to a number of JSM's interviews in the last few months. Previously, I disregarded him because he is a backbencher and let's face it, his Queen's English labels him as a toff but . . . . . hold on a minute - this label is applied by the so-called free-thinking, lefty, PC brigade who need to take a long hard look in their own mirrors - ultimately, these people are much worse bigots than those they despise. Sideline your bigotry and your entrenched, stereotypical views and just sit down and listen to this man. He doesn't dodge questions and hides nothing. He is clear-thinking, eloquent and very fair. He professes that he is not interested in leadership and in any event, the question does not arise as he is a backbencher. Listen to his interview with James O'Brien . You can't pull the wool over O'Brien . Mogg tried , but he was pulled to pieces . He's like Johnson .. a born liar . He'll say anything to get you on his side . 👍👍

JRM is so wonderfully English! I definitely don't agree with him on everything, although he could persuade me on many things. Love him.

The comment calling him stupid from a questioner was reasonably and calmly dismantled and exposes the fundamental difference in right left thought

I liked the way he countered that rude assertion by addressing the second question saying "to come to the gentleman" as if to imply the bloke who implied he was stupid was mot a gent.

There was a lovely lady living on cloud nine in the panel. She asked for a house with a garden, there just isn’t enough land in England to build that kind of infrastructure for each new home. Buy an old build. People want houses they can live in & the spaces for gardens will erect more houses for people to live-in them. In the future England will be building upwards to address the shortage of housing.
