A true pride of India unlike spending money and campaign to win a side award, imagine westerners approached an Indian composer by recognizing his Indian work when social media and youtube was not famous among common people, and then you get nominated through official submission and get nominated along with Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard and Newman to win Grammy, golden globe and Oscars in main category (not just side category-original song) and win the awards, a phenomenal win that can never be matched by any Indian composers

I was wondering since a decade why AR Rahman's music is lacking that 90s magic and recently I came across this tamil talk show where he and his wife are interviewed by Suhasini. The host asked her what do you like in AR Rahman's work and AR Rahman interfered. He said he stopped making carnatic raga based compositions because his wife hates it. And his wife made a 😖face and said "I hate it" and then said "but I like his sufi compositions, they are so soothing". I was shocked at the level of ignorance and narrow mindedness of whom people perceive to be a musical genius. What a fall of a great legend. We saw him go from a liberal free-spirited creative genius to a fundamentalist within 2 decades. His daughter is the proof right here.

Back then, his days were marked by either diligent work or devout prayer, with no other leisurely pursuits to occupy his time. The fact that his daughter embraces a strong conviction in the Almighty and attires herself in a Burka has nothing to do with her father. It's her own individual volition, for AR Rahman endows his children with the autonomy to choose. His other daughter opts for fashionable garments, unencumbered by any compulsion to adopt a particular dress code. Thus, you should be aware of the truth that AR Rahman never coerces such choices upon his children. In numerous interviews in the past, ARR has divulged that his spouse harbors an inclination towards pop melodies and exhibits minimal interest in the classical genre. Nonetheless, this has not hindered him from creating masterpieces that incorporate Carnatic and Hindustani Raagas. His recent Tamil compositions continue to reign supreme, enriched by their foundation in the Carnatic Raaga framework. In fact, the genre that enraptures his senses and perpetually captivates him is none other than the classical music. ARR is inseparable from classical music since it serves as the bedrock upon which his musical edifice is still constructed.
