I love how, through her comedy, she is normalising being autistic. People get so serious about 'isms and worry about causing offence, but Fern still wants to giggle with us about willies. Five Stars

I’m so bummed that I missed out on this talk, especially as it was hosted by Laura Davis. As someone who is an undiagnosed autistic person (only came to the realisation a few months ago, at age 33) I found the conversation so insightful. I’ve been binge watching Fern Brady’s interviews re: this book and, honestly, each one I hear provides something new that I 💯 relate to. I saw both of their shows at the MICF this year and they were brilliant. 😁

I stopped 'reading' within a few seconds. Instead I danced to it, sang every chorus, slept within the folds of its gentle sagacity, inhaled the bitter aroma of historical heresy and the honeyed musk of compassion. I swayed, raged and staggered. I set fires, wet them with fat dolloping tears, and downed reckless shots of chilled clinical data laced with contempt, chased with self pity, filled past the brim with unreasoned resentment. A hundred times I rejected it. A hundred times I beckoned for its return, begging to be reckoned with. This book is the lodestar of manifold divergence. I was maligned and beloved, blighted and blessed. There is recognition and solace here. I've waited forever for pain that purifies. It cuts deeper than the pain that vilifies but within the wound is the remedy. i was born in the 1950s with a damaged brain and two sets of reproductive organs. Not pink, not blue, neither fish nor fowl. My birth record identifies me as "Anoxic Hermaphrodite" Heavy metal or Punk? ...i recommend The Myth of Normal (Gabor Mate) I'd like to write a book but I'm tangentially discursive (and vice versa)

Re: autism in men Never liked hand shakes or someone putting their hand on my shoulder. How is a hand on shoulder supposed to be comforting or reassuring? (Tested and passed👍)

If 1 in 36 people qualify for a diagnosis of autism, how is it a neurodivergence? With those numbers it sounds more like being normal with "neurotypical" people just controlling the game, much like patriarchy. Gosh! Iim not usually quite so conspiracy minded!
