I just ordered my first Roman Szmal watercolours today, after pouring over online colour charts and paint swatching videos. I love that there are so many single pigment, natural earth colours in the range and am so happy to buy from a small business. I saw a brief video of Mr Szmal talking about his paints where his knowledge and passion shone through. It is so nice to now see him in this longer interview. I'm so looking forward to receiving that little packet in the mail - the colours, the mixing possibilities. . . ahhh.

I reapect that he went with full pans first in order to meet the needs of his local market. All of us outside Poland are lucky to enjoy his paints now because of those early successes.

So nice to hear from him in person. Aquarius has become probably my favorite watercolor brand to use. I've acquired nearly the full line by now, not because I need them all, but because it is such a joy to experiment and play with the varieties of colors. The unique pigments are also very intriguing. I can't wait for whatever he releases next! Also, thank you so much, Jackson's, for making these so easily available for us in the US to get ahold of. I remember drooling over videos of them back when they were still brand new in Poland, thinking I'd never get to try them myself. You folks are fantastic.

Absolutely love Roman Szmal watercolors!!! They are affordable and you get full sized pans. Colors are beautiful. I’m going to have to try the Buff Titanium now.

Aquarius Grey is the one he was referring to as the most "contaminated" so it's a darker Buff Titanium

No he mentioned both buff titanium as a great mixing colour and titanium grey as another colour. Buff titanium is one of my absolute favourite mixing colours.

So nice to finally see and hear Roman Szmal in person. I once had a problem with one of his paints (maybe something happened during shipping). So I wrote to Roman Szmal watercolor support, I didn't know he would answer me himself. He solved the problem wonderfully and I am very grateful for the time he took to give me the solution. I am happy using full pans of Roman’s paints so tubes, while good to have, are not necessarily the attraction; what keeps me with this line of excellent paints is his understanding of what artists want most, and the never ending effort to improve the colour formulas.. like modern alchemy, but using pigments! :)

I just bought Romans paints and I am excited to paint with them. I love full pans and the fact that he takes so much time to make paint from scratch and hand fill the pans. I absolutely love his paints. I first heard about them from KZbin paint swatcher Jay Nathan, so I bought a few to try. I was so impressed that I now have 24 different colours, all of which are beautifully made and have rich pigment content. They wet very easily and mix superbly. I have a lot of fun with them.

Beautiful paints and wonderful colours and it's so lovely to see the man himself! My one wish would be for the paints to be available more widely ( Ireland, for example? 🙏). I used to buy mine from UK, now it's not an option, luckily I found a source in Germany and order from there, but the price of the shipping really hits the pocket, and when I think,how many Roman Szmal paints I could buy for that amount of money, it gives me anxiety 😂 Thank you for the joy that your watercolours bring not only to me,but to plenty of people around the world! Buff titanium is wonderful. I make my own Buff titanium gouache and its value in colour mixing is enormous. What a charming interview. I love these vignettes of paint makers. Keep them coming.

I love Aquarius paints. As someone on a budget I can afford to try so many different pigments that would other wise be out of my budget. They are absolutely excellent quality for a really reasonable price. In Australia they are cheaper than student grade but are most definitely professional grade paints. His mixtures are second to none. He doesn't just create colour mixes because it's cheaper or it's done but because he can do them really, really well. I'm absolutely thrilled that he's started selling half pans so I can create a nice small travel palette and pleased he is going to do tubes. For most colours I'll probably still use his full pans in the studio but will but the tubes for colours I use a lot like buff titanium and indanthrone blue. Nice to put a face to the brand name.

Can you make a non pastel version of lavender perhaps non granulating? I’ve never seen a brand carry a blue violet like smalt pv15 WN or the Prismacolor imperial purple that didn’t granulate. It’s just a perfect blue violet in a color wheel.

My 9yr old son has a gifted talant for sketching which include drawing objects, characters, perspective etc. What can I do to get him recognised?

I'm not an expert, but since nobody else has answered your question yet, I would like to make some suggestions. 1. Talk to his art teacher. He/She will be more familiar with what is possible in your area. 2. Have your son build up a portfolio of his work. He should practise a lot, take classes, expand his skills and knowledge. If he takes professional art classes, he will get into contact with professional artists who will be able to tell him more about how to get more attention and recognition. 3. I don't know how it is in your country and area, but in Germany banks sometimes have exhibitions of young artists. I don't know much about it, but an art teacher and a good portfolio would certainly help with such an exhibition. To sum it up: A lot of dedicated practice, a growing body of finished pieces and contacts to the art world should help your son's art jouney.
