In Conversation with Sonam Wangchuk: Insights on MHA Talks, Pad Yatra and Ladakh’s Demands

We discuss the recent meeting of the High-Powered Committee with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) regarding Ladakh's 4-point agenda, including Article 371, UT with legislature, Sixth Schedule, Domicile, and Reservation. And for the girl and all other media people of Leh fails to ask tuff questions to Apex and Secmol apart from asking only to a few leaders.....See the media people of Kargils....they always ask tuff questions to every leaders, not like our media people who always ask comfortable and questions convenient to them.... Reach Ladakh should have asked him about recent statement of sitting MP because that statement could have seriously affect the unity of Ladakh, Buddhist - Muslim and Apex - KDA fighting for Ladakh's future. Current MP is a constitutional authority who took oath of constitution of India yet he gave such a divisive and hate speech that too in a public forum openly targetting Buddhists as "Dusre Log" and saying he won MP elections just because of votes and unity of Muslims only. Such statements from such a high stature public representative could create serious dis - harmony but unfortunately neither Ka SW not Apex KDA key leaders uttered a single word against him while on the other side Ka SW made a whole episode of Achoe Singstam against LBA Kargil a year ago during our struggle for Kargil Gonpa labelling us as communal and politically motivated including the key Apex KDA leaders even though LBA Kargil was sincerely fighting for the genuine rights of Buddhists of Kargil which was and is the prime responsibilty and objective of LBA to protect the rights of Buddhists. But that was effecting unity of Ladakh seriously and recent open hate and divisive speech of MP not. Here i see is the problem and hypocrisy from SW and Apex leaders. Especially for Ka SW who talks a lot about MORAL and ETHICS for which I respect him but action always speaks louder than words. Since last 5 years Ka SW raised voice only for "6th schedule"... nothing less... nothing more and set a strong narrative among people of Ladakh that if Ladakh doesn't get "6th schedule", it is going to be the end of Ladakh. I never saw him talking about any other alternative constitutional safeguards at all except 6th schedule until now and for which he made people of Ladakh sit on hunger strikes in winters and summers and walk from Leh to Delhi and the demand was only 6th schedule nothing else. He even targeted BJP MP and BJP party so much just in the name of 6th schedule by instilling so much FEAR in the minds of common people that Ladakhis started believing that there is no way out except 6th schedule. Unfortunately congress and AAP took big advantage of this narrative set by him in recent elections also. But now all of a sudden, APEX - KDA key leaders in the recent meeting of 15th Jan surprisingly and shockingly agreed to be flexible and compromised with this unchangeable "6th schedule" demand if govt agrees to give Ladakh UT with legislature. Also, Apex KDA agrees for the 15 years Domicile timeline which they bluntly rejected. Now in this interview yet again very cleverly and smartly KA SW is trying to justify and defend Apex - KDA key leaders knowing that they have done great injustice to the innocent common people of Ladakh by compromising with 6th schedule for which all of them make innocent people of Ladakh suffer like anything including the aspiring youths. Now, saying that if govt gives a better constitutional safeguards in the form of 371 with assembly then we might not need 6th schedule is complete betrayal of innocent people of Ladakh. Why this COMPROMISING and BARGAINING approach and strategy with govt now which we have never ever noticed during past 5 years instead Apex - KDA leaders derailed many of the talks with MHA just because they don't want to talk about anything else except 4 point agendas mainly 6th schedule and publicly announced that they will never ever compromise with it. All such double standards from our key leaders make people like us question and criticise them and we will continue doing so because innocent people of Ladakh started believing blindly whatever you say and do which is not a good sign for the future of Ladakh. Hopefully our key leaders will always "WALK THE TALK". "We can fool some people sometimes, We can fool some people all the time but We can never ever fool all the people all the time". ❤
