@monokhem the chicken fingers episode still feels like something that could happen irl, minus the really exaggerated parts. As good as that episode was, it's still nowhere near as insane as them being permitted to trash their campus and shoot paint literally anywhere all for a prize that's way too valuable (judging from what Jeff said he could do with it) for any one student to have
@FinnDarius
@FinnDarius 4 жыл бұрын
@monokhem again the chicken fingers episode is an exaggeration of stuff that could actually still be possible in real life, a campus-wide paintball game with little restriction and no time limit couldnt have possibly been derived from anything realistic. Yeah cafeterias suck, but you make it sound like it aint realistic for people to eat there in the first place. In our college people eat at cafeterias because of time constraints, people being too lazy to walk out of the campus just to eat, or the food just being actually good in the cafeterias. And as for the guy who was willing to do anything for chicken fingers, that's just clearly the show's way of exaggerating the amount of power that they have over everyone. This kind of stuff happens all the time in college, be the only person to have the test answers for an upcoming final and suddenly classmates will want you to share it with them, be the really smart guy in a class and suddenly people want tutoring or homework help. In all your college life have you seriously never had anyone want to do favours for you just because you had something that they wanted? So much about the chicken fingers episode can still be derived from real world scenarios. No campus in existence would willingly allow students to do what they did in modern warfare. "Permitted" is the right word cuz the paintball game was organized and initiated by the dean, and while he couldn't stop it, it doesn't change the fact that he started it and didnt think to establish any restrictions.
@FinnDarius
@FinnDarius 4 жыл бұрын
@monokhem ffs, most people watching community for the first time wouldn't just immediately absorb the insanity of the chicken fingers episode. It was unarguably insane, but it was gradual so by the time it reached ridiculous, the average viewer would've been settled in to this illusion that Abed had control over everyone. I say modern warfare was the first to really sell insanity because just by watching it for the first time, shit went from 0 to 100 real quick over the course of Jeff's nap in the car, what people would assume was just gonna be some childish boring paintball game for a cheap DVD player turned into an insane war on the campus and we as the viewer just gets thrown into it with hardly any build-up. "You've got nothing and your lies and straw man arguments are stupid and tedious" Why not take a good look at your arguments and see if the average viewer thinks that when they watch this show the first time: "Most people don't even eat at cafeterias" --- Lemme rephrase "you make it sound like it ain't realistic for people to eat there in the first place", I meant you make it sound like it ain't realistic for THAT MANY people to eat there in the first place. This show is in a fictional world where they've clearly established that people generally eat here instead of elsewhere. Your whole statement about wanting chicken fingers over just eating in other fast food places --- This show is in a fictional world where they've clearly established that people generally eat here instead of elsewhere, severely unrealistic I know, but that's been the trend for most of this series "...big assine craze on college campuses in the 90's" --- Who immediately remembers this in watching modern warfare? "Modern warfare is much more realistic" --- You could be right, but the point i was making was which one really sold viewers on how insane the show was gonna be for the seasons to come, so yeah I may have flown off the handle if this argument turned into which episode was more insane. Even the placement of this episode being near the end of season 1 implies that further seasons will get wackier People who I know and asked say they remember modern warfare more fondly than the chicken fingers episode, not because it may/may not have been more insane, but because it was insane all the way (at least immediately after the intro). And I may not have asked them why this was, but I could only assume it's because AGAIN the chicken fingers episode was gradual and built up and from what I remember watching it the first time, the ridicule of that episode just flew over my head, and I pretty much forgot about over time it til I started rewatching on Netflix Contemporary American Poultry was an awesome episode, but there's a reason why paintball got 3 more episodes after Modern Warfare

@@ishish8816 I totally disagree. If this was Big Bang Theory more Abed and Troy would be great because that show has nothing substantial to offer. Troy and Abed are icing. They aren't even the cake, let alone the steak. Season 6 is much stronger for Troy's absence. Troy is a cartoon, and entertaining cartoon, but still a cartoon. I like the weightier stuff. All of the best Abed episodes he is separated from Troy, Critical Film Studies, Intro to Film, Contemporary American Poultry. If they brought Troy back the best thing they could do is show that Troy and Abed don't work anymore, that they have grown apart, and that at least one of them has matured past playing in cardboard boxes.

It is very interesting to see how a lot of the members of the cast work in part due to their natural connection with the character. Joel is so snarky, so direct, so laconic; Yvette is actually really nice and wholesome; Alison is endearing, but also very intense (she studied for the reunion like Annie would); Gillian's speech about how she knew she would very hardly be involved again in something so impactful is such a real, sincere, but also honest compliment, a very Britta statement; and Ken is actually just as much of a whirlwind as Chang. Danny is a nice surprise, so much laughter, not that much of a camera hogger unlike Abed, but you can also see how much he actually loved the show, and not just the work or the friends he did (someone commented below that it is sad he hasn't had more success, which is true because aside from Donald Glover and perhaps Yvette he might be the most versatile). And well, Jim Rash throws it out of the park with such a great, spontaneous rendition of the peanut bar rap, showcasing how talented he is. I am glad I finally decided to watch this long interview.

57:18 to 59:22 touched me so much because I didn't realize what the show meant to *me* until Gillian Jacobs and Danny Pudi put it in their own words. I think they really gave voice and humanity to the most underrepresented people in media, the outcasts who are left behind and misunderstood by society for *wanting* to be different. They are unlike other outcasts because they chose their paths and they don't want what everyone else wants: a well-paying job, marriage, and kids. To put it in perspective, look at how most media portrays outcasts today. The Joker is a recent example. He wants what everyone else wants and it drives him insane because he can't have it. But we never question WHY he should want those things. Abed and Britta don't want those things at all. Abed obsesses over media because he loves the artistic world of possibility and meaning. People like Abed who love comics, videogames, movies and TV shows don't just want to be entertained, they want to vicariously experience the truth of life through fantasy. People like Britta fight for societal change because they want to be part of something bigger than themselves. Rather than opting out of society to enjoy the fantasies of media, they want to literally fight against reality to open it up to new possibilities. Throughout the show, we see both Abed and Britta have suffered financially for their choices. Society doesn't reward people who want to be different. Abed is dependent on his father and Britta's life is deceptively financed by her family through her friends. By the finale, we know Britta tries to achieve independence as a bartender and Abed chooses to pursue a career in auteur cinema. Neither path is destined to pay well and they don't care. They still reject society's demands for conformity, however... unlike other programs, Community shows us that is OKAY! It doesn't teach you to judge these people. It teaches you to love and even admire them for wanting to be authentically THEMSELVES. We can all feel that Community is something special and unique, unlikely to ever be repeated. That is because at the end of the day, the heart of Community is learning to accept yourself and your tribe---NO MATTER who or where you are in life. That is extremely subversive, powerful, and real. Not all of us climb the career ladder to become traditionally "successful", like in every series finale ever. This would imply there is an end goal to life. In truth, that's why most happy endings seem inauthentic and forced. They doom their characters to a life of stasis. Community's series finale is different because it ends at the BEGINNING of every character's life, where they will no doubt change in unpredictable ways as they grow into the fully realized versions of themselves that they *found* during the show's six-season run. Some of us just want to do what makes us *happy* with the people *we love* in our own little *communities*---that's Jeff, the Dean, Chang, and Britta. Some, having learned all they could but wanting more, join new communities or make their own---Troy, Shirley, and Abed. Either way, when we live authentically and share our experiences with others, life is beautiful. We enjoy the journey regardless of destination, making unforgettable friendships along the way. That is what Community is all about.

Different people also can desire relationships/marriage etcetera. It doesn't make them less "different". You say like all different people want to be alone forever, and the moment they enter relationships or reach some sort of stability they lose their uniqueness or become part of the " system". It doesn't work that way, no need for labels, mate. Also, Britta wasn't so different, she was rather shallow and hypocritical as it turned out. But all the rest I really enjoyed, great comment in general.

The season finale was the best finale I have ever watched. A perfect community episode(minus troy who was always my favourite, plus troy and abed as a whole different character). Episode 4 was again very good. Genuinely it was a good season. Even the paintball episode was good, with the twist, giving that it lacked troy who enabled Abed s imagination. Genuinely with what they had they did an amazing job. I still can't belive something this good exists. This and bojack are the best written shows ever. Dan even made the comment about jokes not being jokes by themselves but coming from their respective characters. This is what comedy should look like. Just so so so so happy this exists.

This is such a nice thing to see. You can tell that there is a lot of weight on all of them for how hard they had to fight for this show, but I hope they truly do recognize how important they all were in so many people's lives. This show came out at a critical point in my life, and when I actually started watching it a few years after it aired, it was such a joy to be able to binge and find myself relating to all of the characters. Laughter is so hard to manufacture, and this show, so naturally, brought me so much joy and helped me cope with a lot of difficulties in my life. All the drama surrounding it aside, I hope they really did enjoy the ride and I wish them all the best for the good they helped bring into my life!

It's amazing to hear all of them talk about Community as their no 1 favorite thing they've ever done, especially Ken Jeong (even though he seems TRASHED). It really reinforces that idea that Community is probably the best show I've ever watched. The best is when Dan and Joel talk about it. They clearly have so much love for the show and think it's actually the best thing ever. I gotta say though, as funny as I find Rick and Morty, it almost seems like 7 more seasons of just that is daunting to Harmon. He talks about that show so much less fondly than this one.
