My wife and I traveled to China in 1980 with the William Hall Chorale, and Jester Hairston came with us as guest conductor. The group sang this song and Elijah Rock. The Chinese people loved Jester who was 80 at the time. He was one of the sweetest people I ever met. Fare thee well Jester until That Great Gettin’ Up Morning.

you are substituting tempo for rhythmic energy... slower, but still very rhythmic and no leg slappin.
