Not a bad review, but you forgot to mention one thing: There's a database of robot masters that can be filled out by collecting discs from the 8 stages as both Mega Man and Bass. It features all robot masters from Mega Man 1 to this game, and includes the Genesis unit, Stardroids and Mega Man killers. It just shows blurbs and facts about them like like Burst Man hating parties. Things like that.

@dnmstarsi
@dnmstarsi 18 күн бұрын
Probably because the database while a cool idea, is kinda underwhelming. While the collection of characters throughout the main games and spinoffs is cool and has some decent info on the characters though I will say some things are odd like some of their likes and dislikes (also Dr. Light is "Douchie") and characters like Dr. Cossack didn't get a bio. But I can't hate on it compared to some of the challenges to acquiring the discs like in the final Mole sequence in Ground Man's stage or trying to get Quick Man's disc.

One detail I really like about this game's intro stage is that since it's the robot museum, the level is made up of homages to older robot master stages. My favorite factoid about this game is that it's the closest the Capcom crew worked with the tie-in mangaka of the various Mega Man magna imprints. Hitoshi Ariga, the mangaka for Megamix not only did promo art for the game, but designed Burnerman and Dynamo Man Koji Izuki, who penned the MM8 and MM&B manga, designed Coldman and Pirateman Iwamoto Yoshihiro, the man behind the X series manga, designed Groundman and Magicman.

THIS GUY GETS IT. Accounting for inflation, SNES games were around $120 each. We got 2-3 games a year if we were lucky. So a game that can be beaten in a weekend, or even a week, was a rental game. And, also, for as limiting as the Star Engine's physics can be at times, and, while I think the last 3 Sonic 3 Zones should've just used the actual demos instead of remixed ones that sound remarkably inferior (or, the best case scenario, SEGA could've made an agreement with the Jackson estate to use the tracks that appear in the final release of the original Sonic 3K as a toggle with the demos), Sonic Origins is a pretty good port of 3 pretty good remakes, while also finally being able to release Sonic 3K as it's *own* remake to give new players and chance to experience the Classic Tetralogy.

I've always thought of the Mega Man series like this: Classic Mega Man was made for all ages but mostly for children with the way the art direction moved towards. Mega Man X was made for teens and adults with how serious the story is and even the art style that was used. Mega Man Legends was made so Capcom could jump on the hype train that was exploration games like Zelda and stuff. Mega Man Battle Network was made because card games like Yu Gi Oh or the Pokemon TCG had become popular and Capcom wanted to also cash in on that market but they wanted to bring their own spin to it. Mega Man Zero was made to follow up on the X story and to add a true Mega Man X style game experience to portable handhelds, as the Xtreme games on GBC were very hit or miss in comparison to the Mega Man GB experience . Mega Man ZX and Star Force exist, because the Battle Network and Zero series were fairly popular, and Capcom wanted to milk Mega Man dry by that point. Its crazy how much Capcom has been milking Mega Man since the 1980s, by basically releasing games at almost a non stop pace, considering the fact that they considered Megaman 1 a failure and didn't really believe in it, but after the devs dedication to make Mega Man 2 on their free time in between other projects paid off, because Mega Man 2 was very popular and successful, Capcom basically tried putting Mega Man everywhere, because even his spin offs series had spin offs, and they even followed the trend that Mario and Sonic were doing by basically making sports games like Mega Man soccer, or even the very clunky Mega Man Battle and Chase kart game. But somehow between all of that mess, Mega Man & Bass was made as a personal challenge from Inafume and his staff, to see who were the true Mega Man veterans, because unlike most of the other games, there is no hand holding whatsoever in this SNES game, and the only people that praise it are the ones who beat that challenge, very similar to how Super Mario Bros 2 (Lost Levels in the US) was basically Nintendo's game to challenge the experts at playing Mario, and the people that call Mega Man & Bass a bad game just didn't fully experience it, and they just gave up after getting wrecked a couple of times, and that to me is just unfortunate because the game truly is a satisfying experience.

It's incredible to think that when this game came out for the SNES the sixth generation of consoles was already on its way with the Dreamcast, I love how long the Super Nintendo supported it even more so because I had one for a long time, it's a shame that this game was never released outside of Japan. Another thing I love about it is how it gives you a taste of "MegaMan Next Gen" using the sprites and artistic style of MegaMan 8 on the PS1/Sega Saturn and being the only MegaMan on the SNES to use saves instead of a password, I really I admire Capcom for this. And in the end, I think the game is really fun, a little frustrating due to the difficulty, but fun, it's really worth giving it a try.

I think one thing that deserves to be mentioned but wasn't was the CD collection. It's kind of a love letter to all megaman games before it. At the time of the game release, I don't know it there was any book published (in Japanese or in English) that was an encyclopedia of all the megaman bosses. It includes their personality, their likes and dislikes (no, seriously) and is nice to look through. And when I say all the megaman games, I mean it. It has art for all of them INCLUDING the GB games. I remember looking through them and going "Mars? Who the fuck is Mars?" It's also worth mentioning that, at the time of release (at least here in Taiwan) there was considerable hype around it. The reception here seems to be that it was a good game. I didn't even know people hated it. The last thing I want to mention is that, with the complaints about the weapon energy, that's mitigated by the damage absorber, the energy saver, and the auto recover (megaman only). The first will absorb damage as weapon energy, the second will lower the weapon cost and the last, while standing still, can recover your health. Combine all of these and you can refill our energy just be getting hit then waiting. I personally think this is why the game is so hard for many. Combined with needing patience, a lot of people, I think, didn't bother to replay the stages and/or farm for the upgrades. When you get them all, Megaman can be a beast.

I'm not a big fan of "Mega Man and Bass", but kudos to you for enjoying it. I only have two issues with it, but they're substantial enough to make me not enjoy the game much. The game skips out a lot on Setups. Enemies are often introduced in inappropriate or unsafe environments, making the difficulty curve flat with lots of beginner's traps. More importantly, enemies are reused frequently, so the actual designs quickly become repetitive and unimaginative after a while. The game lacks flow and inspiration, thus I don't enjoy it as much as other instalments (my favourites being 4 and 9).

I don’t have any strong feelings for the ROR one way or another, I haven’t watched it in almost seven years, after all. The only thing I could say I have against it is that me from seven years ago was in it, because he’s a silly fellow. I only glossed over the ROR just because people were expecting me to pay massive tribute to that video in this one, so I figured I’d subvert expectations. But, glad you enjoyed this one.

This absolutely should have been included in the Mega Man Legacy Collection 2. It was referenced in MM9's ending! They already had a built-in SNES emulator, so it would have made perfect sense. I think the only reason it wasn't was because there was no official translation of it, aside from the GBA version which has some real problems.

Mega Man X6 is nowhere near as challenging as Mega Man & Bass. Although that's not saying MM&B is extremely difficult; it's very manageable, even as Mega Man, if people just learn to play it differently. X6, though, is just tedious and drawn-out; there are plenty of checkpoints, including before the boss and getting a game over goes right back to those checkpoints, all weapon energy gets refilled on each respawn, and all the "difficult" parts are handled either by attrition or doing something that's simple but poorly explained by the game.

For the longest time I didn't even know this game had a GBA port, I just played it on the Super Nintendo emulator and the patch. Always liked how in that era of Mega Man games they were looking for ways to use the side characters, made the games feel more lively. The Transceiver was a neat way to incorporate Roll into the game even though they didn't make her playable. And the thing about the special crystal stage is that you don't need to do it all at once right before the Castle Stages, you can go there as soon you beat a stage from the second wave of Robot Masters.

3:45 Megaman and Bass was always thought of as a spin off game. That's why they recognized the existence of handheld games and Wily Tower. It wasn't until Megaman 9 that they decided to canonize it, but it seems to me that they quickly regretted it, because since the collections were released, his existence has hardly been mentioned.

How many of these MM&Bass follows? Take burner man stage as an example. it introduces the spear gimmick to the player and the lava rain in a safe enviroment? or just damage you/kill you and expect you to learn from that? How many enemies do represent the fire themed stage? Rhynos? golems? electric robots? none of them have anything to do with the fire theme. and so on and so fourth. i still find ironic how the most brutal and hardcore megaman game ever exist has the most relaxing and serene soundtrack of the franchise heavily underrated by internet opinion and gba port, easily one of the best classic megaman game, all weapons are useful and fun to play without falling in the broken category like metal blade or jewel satellite, ice wall must be the most well designed weapon in the entire franchise, there so much fun using it stages doesn't feel unfair or bad designed (king stage 2 sucks, nobody gonna denied that) and both characters are fun to use

I don't think it's kids who keep playing on the old hardware long after the newest generation came out in Japan, kids are typically dead focused on gaming and even if their families are poor they'll go out of their way to save up for the latest consoles and games. So I'm pretty sure that segment of players largely consists of young adults, people who graduated school or maybe just got hired on their first job and now have too many life responsibilities to deal with, making it hard and expensive to keep up with the latest gaming trends so they never upgraded, but they still occasionally game on their older systems when they have the chance because of course they wouldn't just drop gaming entirely after entering a new phase of their life. That's why it makes sense that R&F was so hard, it was actually meant for an older audience. Kirby's Dreamland 3 was designed with a similar approach, being one of such games that came out long after its console was replaced on the market, but rather than making it hard the developers instead made it so that couples can enjoy it together with a new and intuitive co-op feature, fully expecting that only older people were going to buy it at this point and with an assumption that they're likely to have a significant other.
@Diwasho
@Diwasho 15 күн бұрын
Also you have to keep in mind that in Japan adults _are_ expected to act like ones and gaming is viewed as a childish pastime, if you graduated school you're expected to be more into adult stuff like mahjong, drinking and night clubs, so continuing to play games at that age comes with a stigma. Generally you can do anything you want in private but you have to live up to certain standards in public in order to be accepted by the society, so for adults it's easier to secretly play their old consoles that they already have, if somebody asks about it they can just say "oh I found this old thing from my childhood the other day and thought I'd give it a go for old time's sake". But if you're an adult playing on recently released gaming hardware this excuse won't work.

Happy to see this one getting some much needed love. I grew with Mega Man, the second game was an early NES rental for me and I became a life long fan playing the games at release starting with 3. When the fan translation scene first started gaining momentum in the late 90s this game was one my friends and I considered one of the later SNES gems that never came to America (which for the most part are JRPGs) so always held it in high regards. I didn't even realize it wasn't well liked until like 2015 or so, like 15 years after I first played it. It really is astonishing how they pulled this off on 16 bit hardware.

Many people tend to complain about this game because of SomeCallMeJohnny. It's a very solid game with a respectable amount of challenge. If you want a Megaman game that is absurdly unfair and unforgivable as far as level design and checkpoints, try Megaman Unlimited. For example, the Plane boss in King Stage 2 was critiqued as "Death is certain if you play as Megaman if he uses the fist attack", but you can very easily negate that because Lightnig Bolt holds you in the air, I think people like SomeCallMeJohnny have a serious skill issue.

Nah comparing the Snes fight with the gba fight shows a devious change, on GBA he shoots the first far more often [Or if its not that then the lowrer resolution keeps him from going up too much and ends up making him crack multiple platforms in 1 fist launch] which creates pits more often

I also actually like the GBA version's soundtrack - there are some tracks that I actually prefer the GBA version. I actually enjoyed how long some of the stages were (I also liked this in MM11). To me, some of the stages in this game felt closer in line to those from the previous games in the series than the MM8 stages. I'll never understand why this game wasn't included in MM Legacy Collection 2. Capcom really blew an opportunity to make this game much more accessible.
