+Jack Jill I don't think there is one yet...because it corresponds to 23-28 days old embryo. I have William Lan's Arabic -English Lexicon, and the word is derived from statements like "The beast drank water and the *leech* clave to it." or usage for pregnancy of women from a metaphoric sentence which mean "What has planted changes because it increases and protrudes out while it *clings* to earth and germinate" . So anything that clings or sucks can be described as Alaqa, for example in "the child *sucks* his finger" Alaq is used in "Yaluqu" form.

Iqra is the first word of the chapter. How do we know that the angel Messenger wanted Muhammad to read, and not recite? Qari are the reciters in Arabic. A Qari may read from the mushaf but also he recites for the audience or the worshippers. It should be translated as 'recite' in this case? So ppl are not confused. Bc Muhammad PBUH could not read.
