This late model Singer 99K sewing machine is getting an electrical update! I will fully disassemble and clean the motor and put it back together and then switch out the foot control to a new electronic style one. This machine also gets a new vintage style plug! At the end we will power it up and make sure everything functions, really rewarding after all that work! This video is part of a series for the late model Singer 99, showing you how to disassemble, clean and reinstall all the parts. Once we are finished this 99 will be sewing beautifully! Follow along for an in-depth understanding of how your 99 works and learn how you can service and restore your machine on your own!

Do you have a video showing how to repair the wiring on a 1926 bentwood knee lever (round) motor. Not the machine itself but the knee lever in the bottom box.

Girl! I just have to thank you and Bob Fowler for helping me tackle a project on a 66 motor rewiring rollercoaster. Of course I saved this video for future reference but thanks to y’all I overcame that fear and got it done. I didn’t have a good lamp to put on there because the one that was on there was totally ruined so I didn’t get to add the lamp wire to the mix. That’s ok, I have the video for when the next opportunity presents itself. Thank you again.

One question, I'm redoing a BZ 15-8 on an early 99K. Is there a trick to how much the case screws are tightened? If I apply torque, the armature does not spin, I have to back off the screws. Spacers?
@SewingMachineRehab
@SewingMachineRehab 3 ай бұрын
Hi! It should spin freely even when the screws are tightened down. You can try moving around the spacers or removing one. Sometimes I find it helpful to lightly tap the pulley end of the shaft to make sure the other end is seated all the way down into the housing. Make sure that the grease wicks are not sticking out of the tubes and impeding the shaft from spinning. That’s about all I can offer without actually seeing it myself, I hope you can figure it out!

is there a spec. on how much end play the motor shaft should have from end to end, mine seems to have exessive end play, iam wondering if someone has been in this motor before me and left out a shim/thrust washer? Also is that thread looking stuff that is wrapped around just under the commutator supposed to be there, it's on mine as well and I don't see it there on other motor rebuild videos, thanks for your help 😁

Hi! A tiny bit of end play is ok. Too much will make it noisy. I am not sure if there is a spec, I haven’t seen one before so I usually go by feel. As far as the thread you are seeing, I would need to see a photo of it before I could answer. I hope that helps!

I would like to know more about the 'screwstarter' screwdriver that you used. Is it magnetic?
@SewingMachineRehab
@SewingMachineRehab 3 ай бұрын
Hi! Those came from McMaster Carr. They have many different sizes but the ones I have are not magnetic. Doesn’t matter, they still make the job way easier. I think they are pretty affordable as well, I don’t work without them!

I have a white rotary and every time I plug it in it smokes. Any suggestions?
@SewingMachineRehab
@SewingMachineRehab 18 күн бұрын
Hi! I would definitely not plug it in again until someone can check out the motor and wiring for you. Smoke is a bad thing and I wouldn't want you to have a fire or get electrocuted. Best to take it to someone who can check it out for you. Good luck!

Hi! Smoke is never good, I wouldn't plug it in again. If you can take it to someone who can go over the wiring and check the motor for you that would be best. It would be awful if it started a fire or electrocuted you. Wish I had better news but in this case, it needs someone who services machines to look at it. I hope that helps and good luck!

@@SewingMachineRehab You have my gratitude. I was able to clean and rewire the BZ motor (it looks like it was in a fire due to melted cables) and it works. I was really anxious before I plugged it in.
