This guitar solo is so special to me. I remember rewinding it over and over because it just blew me away. I'm a guitar player, and learning that solo was a long but fun process. I was so impressed by how it's constructed. SO many great parts of that damn solo, I think it's genius. Also, most In Flames fans might disagree with me, but I think "Trigger" is just an awesome song. The video with them and Soilwork is really cool. Then you have the great Soilwork song "Rejection Role" with the guys from In Flames in the video. I thought it was really cool and kinda clever how they did that.

And you're totally right. After 99 they changed their style to a more groovy melodeath, and until 2006 they were pretty good, nothing like their masterpieces of the 90's, but still decent. After Jesper left the band in 2009 I think, they COMPLETELY sold out to the mainstream rock/ alternative metal...And this really sucks... Sold out is the wrong word. They do the music they like, as always. But they are not teens anymore and make music they like today. The bands that keep doing the same shit year after year "for the fans" ar those who sell out! You know, there isn't a "church of metal" that confines how to do music...
@KreshDraven64 жыл бұрын
@@bjhellstream Completely disagree. You can't deny In Flames are making radio friendly songs now, after Come Clarity they they got cheesy, with tons of electronic and over produced effects, mostly in Anders vocals and since Jesper left the band they didn't made at least ONE memorable riff. But now look at bands like Wintersun, Testament, Amorphis, Dark Tranquility, Overkill or Kreator. ALL these bands evolved, changed their sound and maybe even got heavier than the early records, but they still extremely faithful to the old school sound. Darn Tranquility for exemple, they have clean vocals and electronic stuff in their new songs, but still heavy and totally badass.

Guys. Jesper was the founder of In Flames. He did it because he wanted to play Death Metal, but with melodies of Iron Maiden. While recording demo album they didn't have vocalist and guitarist from Dark Tranquillity, Mikael Stanne did vocals for them. Then Anders, vocalist in Dark Tranquillity, switched to In Flames and Mikael became vocalist in DT. In fact, from old IF there is only Anders (vocals) and Björn Gelotte (guitar) left. No drummer, no lead guitarist Jesper, no bass player. And Jesper was the one who wrote all these melodic riffs for them. This band is just the shadow of great In Flames it once was.

I’ve been around long enough that this is the In Flames that I first knew. What happened? Reroute to Remain happened, and the title is very purposeful. At the time, the band did an interview and addressed the change in direction, and basically, they said that if the band was to continue, a change in direction of the style of music was necessary because they felt that they had exhausted melo-death. Hence, they had to reroute to remain. Check out their catalog before and take note of the marked change they display on that album.

Old school In Flames are the best and other great songs from this album are Moonshield, Lord Hypnos, and Artifacts of the Black Rain. I am from America so this album along with their next EP were added onto one package and a great song from that EP (Black-Ash Inheritance) is Goliaths Disarm Their Davids. This song (December Flower) features current guitarist Bjorn on drums as well. I disagree with the first three albums being a must listen to, their first 5 albums plus EP are a must listen to.

Congrats on your reaction-videos! I always enjoy them and I've learned many good new songs from you! I do not consider In Flames sell-outs. The reason why they change their sound is because they couldn't perform these song live with lots of layers of guitar melodies. They removed some of guitar layers, but they add more melody to the vocals instead. They were always focusing on the melody. Their change of sound started happening about 8 years before Jesper left, so it has nothing to do with his departure. They are an ever-evolving band, they always pushing their limits while maintaining a distinctive sound...So, no there are not sell-outs and personally, I can enjoy their old and new songs the same. This Friday, they will release a brand new song called 'I Am Above'. From teaser it sounds awesome. I am looking forward to your reaction on this song!

In Flames are a band in constant evolution, like it or not. I loved them from the first album and still enjoy their music. They didn't really sell out as much as evolved into something new. They had taken the melodic death metal as far as they could with Clayman. I loved that album. Had it in my cassette (!) player in my car for a year. But one more album like that would have been a disappointment and I think the band felt the same. But if you look back to Lunar Strain you will see that there's a red line of evolution all the way. They never repeat themselves. I'm not a fan of every move they made musically but still there are enough to keep me a fan.
