I don't know why but I can't answer to Amy F. So I'll go on putting this answer to all those videos Amy sais there is something wrong: I went by the booklet. I wrote them down myself so they are not from any websites. Going with the booklets "official" lyrics is not always the best choice. They have seemed to be wrong way too many times. And I have even changet some of those clearly wrong ones. It doesn't matter which road I take (booklet or by the ear), there will always be someone that thinks it's wrong. I can't please everyone. If someone don't like these there's no need to subscribe. If that person can live with my videos where the lyrics are wrong, I thank that person.

Most of us who come here know the lyrcis beforehand already, however booklet is the proper way to go, since thats most likely the way it was written in the first place. Thing evolve from writing to studio. Just ignore all the Karens whining and keep making this stuff.

ikr? I also heard "confession" instead of "departure" for many years, but now if i spam 1:00 i almost hear "conviction"? And you can't hear "stumbling" at 1:03, more like "sunk" or something. The dude needs to mumble less. Also rereading lyrics, most of them are so vague and don't really make any sense without a huge stretch. Everyone sayings it's tear in this eye. I think "i" is correct. It's not TEar as in crying, but teAR as when you rip a piece of paper. He's been torn apart, be gentle to the tear in his soul (it's probably not patched together very well, as in, it's not that long ago)

'Tear in this eye' does not have to be taken literally and to mean a physical tear in some real eye. It's a metaphor. It means be gentle to the suffering of the person/soul. Respect his grief, his pain, be gentle to it. You don't have to change it to 'I' to get this meaning. I think that's the reason so many people wrote about it. There is no point to use unconventional 'I' when the meaning is the same. Though it's possible he used 'I' just in the name of doing it :) But as the booklet had other mistakes, it's also possible that it was a mistake made by people who just don't know English very well and could not think any other word that sounds as 'I'.

I've just never heard "tear in this eye" being used as a metaphor, but then again, english isn't my native language. Is it a commonly used metaphor? When the meaning is the same, it just makes soo much more sense to me to use "i" for the metaphor - it just sounds better, makes it more relatable (to me, atleast) and makes it alot easier to reckognize as an actual metaphor.

Almost everything can be a metaphor. It does not have to be commonly used, it's not the same as an idiom. He mostly speaks about the inner world so he uses metaphors very often. Take the line 'lonesome arms lost its wings again'. It's a metaphor. It does not mean he had any real wings attached to his arms. It can be interpreted as he was hurt to the core. It's how you can picture feelings. Maybe 'metaphor' is not the best word for the 'tear in this eye/I'. Forgive me if there is some better term, I'm not a literature specialist. But the song is about feelings. Tears means crying, crying means suffering. Wherever the tear comes from, it's still about pain. 'The tear in this eye' is just more obvious and clear representation of pain, easier to read, visualize and understand. I don't see a need to complicate it with the replacement. But that's just my view and I don't mind both ways .

It's such an amazing song that you can find your own meaning in it, though it's rather something vague, intuitive. It can be anything you want it to be about. I see this song as a song about a soul. You are a soul. Where a soul can depart from? A soul can depart from the body, from another soul, from its creator, from some starting point in space where it was waiting to come into the physical world. I like the version where it's about starting my journey on this planet. Since the day I, the soul, departed from whatever was my initial home and was thrown down into this world. I play my sympthony in reverse - I'm going my own way, against the grain. As I aim for the special path - we all have a purpose, which is special (unique) for us, aiming for the special path is looking for your life purpose. Lonsome arms lost its wings again - this is about being hurt, devastated. Could it be the soul had to go throug something so painful that felt like death and that also happened before? Was it a real death or was it a painful disapointment? You see I can see the end from here, from this perspective it looks kind of silly - this is a about seeing the bigger picture. How big? Maybe it's about looking at your experience from the perspective of eterninity? I can see the end from here, this is the end of something very meaningful for me. It could be the end of my life, the end of some meaningful relationship. From this perspective I see that it did not have to end this way, I see that it could all end much better. Make me feel like a man...A silent cry from the middle of hell - the soul wants to stop its suffering and escape from the pain it has to go through, it wants another chance, a new start. Take me back to yesterday, I need to grow. If only we could go back to yesterday with the knowledge we have now. Growing is learning, aquiring wisdom and changing. I want to go back to yesterday so I can become a better version of me and possibly change the past. Steal my mask and make me pay - I was not true to myself, see me for who I really am and make me pay me for hiding it. I need a new skin, I'm going insane - I'm lost and destroyed, I need to re-build myself.
