The nexus between Trade and Development has long been established. With the recent establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, intra-African trade is set to grow by 33% as a market of 1.3 Billion people with an annual output of 2.2 trillion USD (both figures from UNCTAD, 2019). However, optimizing trade for development poses challenges for African decision-makers.
To discuss these, and other related issues surrounding trade and development in Africa, we interview Dr. Stephen Karingi, Director of the Regional Integration and Trade Division (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)
