Julie Andrews' performance of My Ship is so beautiful, haunting, precious. So moving. What a distinctive and pristine voice! What a marvelous song!

Guess I'm one of those rare birds who knows Lady in the Dark backwards and forwards. But then, I love Kurt Weill from Klopslied to Lost in the Stars and everything in between amd Saga of Jenny is probably my #1 earworm. Lovely piece on the show to publicize, I assume, a recent revival. One interesting footnote is the show gave Danny Kaye his big debut. He made such an impression as the Ringmaster of the circus dream, Gershwin and Weill added the song Tchaikovsky to showcase Kaye's talents.

Would you believe that when they made the film version of "Lady In The Dark" with Ginger Rogers that they left out half of the songs from the musical ! And they only had snippits of the shows greatest hit "My Ship" . They may as well of made it ino a straight play without any music at all . What's the use of a studio buying a musical and then leaving out the music ? But I must say that Ginger Rogers did a great job in playing Liza Ellioyy .
