FIRE & IRIE in Jamaica

Күн бұрын

We're retired in rural Jamaica, and today was definitely a chance to exercise our patience and tolerance. Junior is home all day as the 6th graders have PEP testing, and with 10 multiplication problems to do, he definitely puts up a strong fight not to get it done. But with a patty on the line and time running out, will he get it done? Later, Mahrez our grandson comes by to entertain everyone with his antics, and we go to Highgate to stock up on our chicken feed. After some rough calculations, I'm able to determine just how much we're paying to raise our own eggs in comparison to what they would cost if we were to get them here locally. Sonia and I also entertain our more humorous side with a new banana growing in the back. By evening time, it's time to have a thrown-together dinner and bring Mahrez home for the night. Richness is Life.

Tyler, again, as always, I commend you, for your patience, and most of all for your dedication in helping these children learn, and grow. For anyone who may have negative comments, please understand that Sonia and Tyler did not raise these children, they have taken them in, and are having to address all ,of the issues of poor behaviours in their previous household. It is not an easy road clearly, but you have so much structure for them already on such a short time. Sending you all so much love and positivity! You are all inspiring, can’t wait to see what the future holds for you all ❤

@@BeingPositiveTV it is clear to see that Junior has learning disabilities, and I’m sure Tyler is not equipped to deal with such, I admire him for what he is doing with & for all the kids, he is doing his best and if you see it as patronising that’s on you not him. Keep up the good work Tyler & Sonia. God bless! Nuff luv.

@FatHindmarch-gn2zs no, it is not clear to me that Junior has a learning disability. I can’t diagnose that based on a short video maybe you have some firsthand information about his diagnosis. That’s even the more reason, if Junior has a learning disability to handle him with Care. So your response is not credible. By no means am I discounting what Tyler is doing I commend both of them for taking on the challenge, but that is my observation and opinion, sorry, Not sorry that you’re offended.

Hi Fire and Irie family, another adventurous day in Rural Jamaica. Just observing these boys their facial expression and behavior is a forms of coping mechanism that they take on before they came to live with Tyler and Sonia. It's going to take some time for them to know that they are love and in a good place. Whatever Tyler and Sonia house rules are it just have to be continued reinforce by them. Family counseling is so important. Junior is having a total meltdown and it not about Math problems.😩 Tyler thanks for your teaching ability to know when to fold'em, know when to walk away, and decompress. Blessings and prayers are with your family.❤

Agreed, it’s evident that Junior has a lot of bottled up emotions, it was heartbreaking for me to watch. I just wanted to reach through the TV and hug him. I know with Tyler’s consistency, we will eventually see some progress. It takes years to learn behaviour, and even longer to unlearn it. Hoping for the best! 👌🏼

Junior appears to dislike doing the Math problems and thinks that he could pry the answers out of Tyler or be given the chance to abandon the work. I believe that Tyler is trying to have Junior develop some critical thinking skills by refusing to give him the answers. If Junior could slow down and think, the process would be smoother. The fact that Tyler is in a guardian/teacher role gives him the perspective of understanding that that behavior is not productive.

The patients need to be with you. You never push a child to the point of frustration when learning. Especially with math, and what you should’ve done is, give him time to walk away from it, compose himself and come back to the problem instead, you made it worse by pretty much patronizing him letting him know the answer was wrong, but I love you guys Still appreciate what you’re doing for these boys. Patient is required with all children, no matter who they are or where they’re from.

Ordinarily I would completely agree with you, but because I have been working with Junior for several months, I have learned quickly that he resorts to such behavior at the first experience of frustration. Allowing him a chance to go through his learned behavior to realize it's not going to get him out of having to sort out what he is doing wrong gives him a chance to modify his process going forward as it doesn't get rewarded perhaps as it has done in the past. Appreciate the feedback. Blessings =)

Everyone gets a passing grade here. Junior's wish is to knock the heck outta that wicked teacher who gave him those hard math problems (Junior, I feel your pain)😂😂😂 Tyler's patience and control allowed Junior to vent his frustration. In the end, homework gets done. Tyler is satisfied, Junior, I'm sure, is relief, teacher will be pleased, patty will be eaten and the day moves on. Bouy, aren't you lucky to have each other? Evening Dean...always love the banter...in this case, I'll respectfully disagree with you and in short just explain that the math problem isn't the actual problem. The problem is Junior doesn't know how to do something and has not developed any grit or ability to persevere to overcome his problem. Allowing him the chance to express himself and finding it won't get him what he wants, gives him an opportunity to explore other options.
