Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

I will be 70 yrs old in a few months (how did THAT happen??) and so I have had many canine Angel partners in my life.....all of them rescued. When I have a dog who is getting ready to pass away/transition....of course I make them as comfortable as possible and give them tons of of love...and since I believe they do have a new life when they are gone, I imagine them running, wagging, playing with a HAPPY PACK again,,,,in a beautiful place of so much fun! Lee's Asher House strikes me as pretty darn close to heaven on earth for dogs!!! Bless him and thank heaven for these wonderful Angel friends who make such a wonderful difference in our lives!

My 14 year old baby girl , benji type dog, passed at the end of April. A tooth infection ate through the nasal cavity and inspite of antibiotics, she bled too much. I called the vet in this small city and they dont do emergency calls. Said to take her to next city 100 miles away. He said bring her in the next morning...her breathing was rapid and she had a seizure or heart attack earlier and never came out of it. At 3 am, I picked her up and laid her by my side in bed and her heart shook and vibrated for 30 seconds and then all was quiet. Her ashes are near me every night and I tell her how much I love her.

In the last 50 years, I only managed to live 4 months without a dog. It was a very empty four months and all I thought about was "It hurts so much when you lose them" versus "It is so lonely without one." And finally I saw an ad in the paper with pekingese puppies for sale. My life changed back to being happy overnight and I swore I would never be without one. Now I have four. It's a circus at times, but I love it. I couldn't take care of big dogs like these, but I admire this man so much for doing this. It is God's work. Even if he is enjoying doing it. I believe, too, we will see our dogs again. The day after my little Teddy died, I stepped out of a bus and right in front of me was a woman with her back to me. She had on a leather jacket which had a bear motif and in large letters the word, "Teddy." The very next night I was at a choir rehearsal. Sitting right next to me was a man whose name was Teddy. One day when I was really down and missing Teddy, I was on a solo walk. A little white dog on a lead walked by. He was literally wearing a tiny, white pair of angel wings! I believe they send us signs if we are open to it.

There is a soulful, joyful, and loving presence in everything that you do. I am a dog lover too. I fostered dogs, loved and cared for them almost all my life. Saying goodbye never became easier over the years. It is something we learn to do: being here, accompanying those gentle souls to the point we can no longer be with them, accepting the pain, the sorrow, the absence and being THANKFUL for everything we learn along the way. You are an inspiration for all of us Lee! Thank you so much for being, loving, caring, and sharing with us all the LOVE. God bless you and you wonderful pack.

There is no place better for an elderly dog to end up than with you guys! I'm sure those 9 months were the best she'd ever experienced, and you always make sure that's the case. As I've gotten older, I've also started to "foster" (heh - they're not going anywhere, and I know it) elderly dogs - especially those with physical problems aside from just getting older. I can't handle as many as you do (I'm on my 5th), and do it right, but I feel at least these dogs, often neglected and dumped, know that being with humans can be a very good experience. If some never knew a good day with a human, I'm here to prove that having good days is how it's supposed to be. Last week we had to put down our elderly cat, Dexter. I'm always sad when it's time to go, but I also "get" what you're saying - there really is a "time" to let go, and we might not understand it, but we all move along to whatever's next. He was a great cat who loved people - just about the only cat that came to greet visitors instead of hiding under the bed. :) In fact, I''m more likely to hide under the bed when people show up than he was - lol. Thanks again for all you do at Asher House!

My precious Billy is like your precious Dexter. I have never known a cat that is as people-friendly as he is. He goes up to people and says hello, loves to be petted. He''ll be 12 in October so I don't know much time I have left with him because, 1. I'll have to move soon, and I don't know if I'll be able to take him with me, and 2, if I can, I don't know how many years he has left. Right now he's healthy, active. and not showing is age too much. Thanks for reminding me of the importance to cherish our loved with they are with us. Bless you for taking in animals that others cannot, or won't take in, and showing them love they need so much for the time they have remaining.

Beautiful CeCe with the soulful eyes is with her Creator right now. I am crying a boatload of tears right now. I have an 11 year old Pomeranian, Honey, who’ve I had since 8 weeks. She is struggling with collapsing trachea. Within last week it’s gotten really bad. You said something that made me think am I being selfish, not wanting her to leave me? Ive taken her to so many doctors. Everyday I give her different meds. I’m here in this hot weather here in California with a Humidifier in the hopes that it helps her breathe. I guess I need to let her know it’s ok to go instead of clinging to her so tightly. Thank you sweet and kind young man with a tender heart. One last thing I promise. I have an empty frame that I bought years ago. It says “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure”.

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I have a 10.5 yr old pomchi with cushings, and she also started with the collapsing trachea in Jan this year. It scared the living heck out of me. She would sound like she was gagging/choking for minutes at a time. I panicked when she went for almost 20min one day and rushed her to the emergency vet. They said there was nothing to do. I looked online for hours and found a "tincture"? I think thats what it would be called im not 100% positive. It was on amazon called "throat gold". Within 2 weeks she stopped coughing/gagging/honking. Now she might do it for 5 seconds only when she gets super excited! I'm aware what works for one may not work for everyone. But I believe if your dog is still happy and loving life then its worth trying anything. Whether you had to make that hard decision to let go, or hold on, only you and your fur bb will know the right choice 💜💜💜💜💜

Butterflies are signs that someone you loved and lost is around. I just lost my absolute best friend. He passed from unexpected and very aggressive cancer. I’m having a very hard time with him not being here. I feel a complete emptiness. I thank you for reminding me to think about how he changed my life and what he taught me. 💜

I think your outlook on the death of our furry family members is SO healthy. Really beautiful to think they leave when they know that we'll be okay. That is SO the thought process of a dog.

I will see my dogs again. They are a gift from God to us. Many with NDE see them waiting in heaven. I will have a pack waiting!

I have a friend who is a veterinarian. I asked once, what he most hated about his job. He said that the most difficult part is knowing that an owner will not stay during the euthanasia of their animal, because 90% of the owners can't bear to watch it and so they leave the clinic and their companion is left alone. In his experience, without exception, these animals in their last moments in the world, these pets look for their owners, anxiously. And this part often made him feel broken. My point is, never leave your companion animal (or any pet) in their last moments, even if euthanasia is needed for it. Even though it's painful, stay with your companion at their last moment, because they will look to you for your particular comfort, that a strange vet cannot hope to be a suitable substitute for.

I just lost my 19yr old mini dachshund. The pain Is hard. I tell myself that the wonderful 18 years I shared with her makes up for the pain I am feeling now. Her death is such a small thing compared to all the wonderful I had with her. This intense pain will pass, and I will have all the memories that in time will fill me with joy, my ❤️ goes to you and anyone going through this.

Thank you so much for making Cece such a happy one and gave a loving end of life. And thank you for sharing your grief with us. The scene with the little butterfly made me cry inevitably.
