Beste Bernardo: My heart goes out to you with the loss of your beloved Mother, I have a younger sister who is called Marijke named after your Mother as was the rage during those times. What a wonderful legacy your Mom has left in the music world, especially in working with young children.Just now listened again to her rendition of "it's a gift to be humble sung at your Grandmother Princes Juliana's uitvaart. Mooi gesproken, Bernardo. Ook aan de Kievietschool in Wassenaar heeft uw moeder prinses Christina veel betekend voor de muziek. De musical waar u in meespeelde, blijft een herinnering voor mij. Mede omdat de prinses boos was, omdat ik als free lancer een artikel schreef in de Haagsche Courant over de musical van groep 8. Samen met Ruud van Dalen, regisseerde ik deze musical en gaf ook de dramalessen aan de Kievietschool. Ik had op verzoek van de prinses beloofd ook andere ouders te noemen in het artikel voor de H.C en niet alleen dat de prinses hielp met de muziek. Maar de hoofd redactie heeft mijn verhaal veranderd en als kop stond in de krant : PRINSES CHRISTINA STUDEERT LIEDJES IN. Ik kreeg de volgende dag op school de volle laag. Mijn uitleg dat het anders was gegaan, werd niet geaccepteerd. Kort daarna ben ik gestopt als freelancer bij die krant. Het zit mij nog steeds dwars. En mocht er leven zijn na de dood, dan hoop ik dat prinses Christina mij alsnog vergeeft. Toch een dankbare herinnering dat ik prinses Christina mocht meemaken, Len van der Maaten

Dear Bernardo, Thank you so much for these beautiful words about your mother. I was so sorry to hear of her passing a year ago. I look back so fondly to the three years in the 1990's when I gave you, and Julie and, of course, your mother piano and composition lessons. You were all so talented, and your mother was filled with so much love - for music, for the people in her life, and for general positivity and good energy in the world. Her support for children and for artistic creativity knew no bounds. She was so incredibly generous in spirit, and she shared the gift of music-making in so many ways with so many people, young and old. Wonderful that the Prinses Christina Concours, which has recognized, celebrated and supported young composers and performers throughout so many years, is acknowledging her today.
