Sandy B., the legendary AA speaker, ended his earthly life with the final words: "Thanks for bringing me to a meeting, buddy." Minutes after this gesture of appreciation towards his friend, Sandy laid his head down on page 23 of the Twelve and Twelve to rest for a moment. The reading was on Step 1 of Alcoholics Anonymous, the "most important step" and the cornerstone of the Program he credited with saving his life and restoring his Spirit.
It was there at his home group, right in the middle of an AA meeting, Sandy B. took his last terrestrial breath with almost 50 years of sobriety. Such a fitting and beautiful end to a remarkable, inspirational life. Sandy leaves behind a timeless and permanent legacy of Love and Service unparalleled in the modern era of the Twelve Step Recovery movement. Only a Higher Power can know, or even comprehend, the amount of lives he has touched.
Words can not explain or somehow encompass the massive impact Sandy has had on the 12-Step Recovery Community. His tapes continue to serve as an inspiration for so many people from all around the world, relating to his simple, yet indescribably powerful, message of depth and weight. I have received countless emails from listeners telling me how much Sandy has inspired and encouraged them. In some cases, they credit him with saving their lives.
I love talking with my friends in recovery about Sandy's tapes, the way he can take an extremely complex topic and condense it down to sheer wisdom in a couple of sentences. Sandy lived his life as an example of the effectiveness of Alcoholics Anonymous, overcoming challenges, facing tragedies with courage and grace, and enthusiastically celebrating the Joy of Recovery. He was a walking, talking, inspirational example of how the Promises of Recovery DO come true!
The following speaker tape is Sandy at his best. Taped in the 1990s, Sandy is full of energy as his wit and charm enchant and captivate the audience in a way only Sandy can. The energy of the crowd is electric as he tells his story and absolutely knocks it out of the park!
Enjoy listening to one of the greatest AA speakers to ever have ever graced the podium, but most importantly, remember he was one of the best AA members to have ever walked through our doors...

If Sandy has inspired you, or you wish to express anything regarding this beloved AA member, feel free to leave a comment below.
Thank you Sandy... Always and Forever, We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit!

I was blessed with the experience of knowing Sandy B. when I got sober in 1985 in Washington, DC. He attended the weekly step meeting at St. David's on Tuesday evenings to which I was directed by my first sponsor. Sandy rarely spoke at those meetings but sat silently and listened. He was very friendly and frequently spoke quietly with newcomers after the meeting. He was everything you stated in your wonderful tribute. For years Sandy use to hold a weekly Saturday morning step meeting held at a large hall at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. It was usually a standing-room crowd and thousands of recovering alcoholics were blessed with Sandy's gift for explaining alcoholism and our beautiful program of recovery. I now live in Denver, CO and frequently listen to Sandy's wisdom on Odomtology 12-Step Recovery Media. Sandy was not as well-known here in Colorado as he was on the east coast and other states but news of his passing swept through meetings here. I was told about Sandy's passing on Saturday morning (October 4th) at the South East Aurora Club. Thank you for preserving Sandy's experience, strength, and hope for those countless millions of alcoholics both in and outside of our rooms. I will always be grateful for his sobriety. Paige J.

I thank my God for the beacon of hope Sandy has kept alive in the legacy of these recordings. I spent decades washing my brain with dirty water and contaminated rags, and the greatest contribution to my recovery has been listening to Sandy B. and his hero Chuck C. I listen to these recordings for hours everyday, some of them over and over and over again. My brain and my thinking is every day more clear, and hope for the promises of recovery is strong. Thank you, Sandy, and thank you Odomtology.

Hi everyone. I'm 2 years and 3months free from active addition and during my early few painful weeks off embarking on the step for the first time and starting to heal from 25 years off selfishness and centred drugging and everything else that goes with that dark life, i heard about the lights are on and this great KZbin outlet. I came across sandy and what a amazing journey off thought changing feeling changing awakening he was able to release in me and this guy somehow someway with a magical charm and a special ability to make you feel as though you where there with him as he spoke about his drinking and above all the spiritual base programme of recovery and that you can walk though the rest off your day a free human being. I ernestly advice anyone afflicted or interested in the plan of recovery out line in the big book, please take part in sandy majestic journey from his first podium recording to his Saturday morning live in the early 90's to his emotional last heart renching talk . If you have surrendered and are willing to go to any lengths allow sandy to guide you , and as for me this guy has added to my life and undulatingly saved my life . Love you sandy and i know that some many others do to you are eched in my ever heart beat. ... Max houston England Planet earth

I've been listening to Sandy for years. I wish I would have found him sooner, I would have loved to make it to that Men's retreat he's spoken about. I will be forever grateful for Sandy he's taught me so much about recovery. The one knock I have is he's ruined the way I listen to speakers, I can't help but judge them against Sandy. But I know I shouldn't, that would be like me comparing my skating ability to Bobby Orr. I tell everybody about Sandy whether I'm speaking or sharing at a meeting to find this man an listen to him. I will do my part to make sure Sandy's legacy lives on!! I know God gave you the words to share with us so we can pass it on. Thank you sir, Bobby D Sobriety Date 06/15/99
