In My Own Time

Күн бұрын

In My Own Time follows the emotional stories of people across Canada who chose to end their suffering through medical assistance in dying (MAID). Navigating this decision leads to life-affirming realizations with family and friends. Internationally recognized medical and legal experts explain why access to MAID is worth protecting.

Brian Oliveira is my brother. I miss you everyday but I know you are at peace now. You are the bravest person I will ever know. You always did things your way and for that I will always admire you for.

What a touching note to your “brave, beautiful brother, my dear Victoria. I am so sorry for your loss and I know it us much harder on us, the living, than it is for the one who left us, but your brother’s death is paving the way for thousands more people who have been suffering like my sister did. I pray for you and your family to find solace in the fact that your brother will never be forgotten by anyone who sees this documentary 🙏❤️❤️

My fiancé passed via Maid Oct 9/23. I cried all the way through this video because it all just rang so true to our experience which is still so raw. I am thankful that he did not have to wait longer in his horrible cancer end stages. It takes incredible courage for the patient to pull the pin but he passed as he wished with a room full of family and friends who loved and respected him dearly❤

I will choose MAID when my time comes. For decades we have euthanized our suffering pets yet some still think MAID for suffering people is wrong. Such a beautiful, gentle, loving documentary. I pray many, many people will watch it.

The people involved in this process from beginning to end , working on the laws and helping people gracefully in their choice are angels. Maybe those that do not accept this have not watched a loved one desperately suffer to a natural end. This choice gives control and dignity in choice. A wonderful documentary!

The film was full of love. My husband had Lewy body dementia. He suffered with pain and confusion. He did finally get drugs to help his body shut down. But it took days. I had to make the decision it was time. As with dementia the patient doesn't have a say. I live with that decision which is difficult. Maid would have helped us so very much. We did have specialists saying this was the right decision for my husband. I hope someday Dementia patients can make the choice and the government will pass a motion to allow patients to decide when they still are able to. Thank you for what you are doing.

What a beautiful film. I wish MAID was available for my wonderful father and loving mother in law both who had dementia. In their honour, I will advocate for advanced request.

This was a great film. All the souls involved seemed like incredible people, and it was an honor to be in their presence if only through here. I'd like MAID for myself one day, but I won't get it because I live in America. I've looked into Switzerland and that seems like a long, difficult and uncertain process. It's very true what they said, that knowing this option is available gives peace of mind and a sense of control, and the will to go on for as long as you can.

This was my second time to watch this exemplary video regarding MAID! It is extremely touching, informative, profound and emotional but convinces me that if I ever need to, I will definitely choose MAID.

I am afflicted with Alzheimer's Disease. It's been just over 2 years now. I can no longer work or drive. I'm getting more stupid with every passing day. In Canada, people with Alzheimer's are just left to get more and more brain-dead. I asked my doctor about assisted suicide and was informed that because I have Alzheimer's, I don't have the mental capability to understand that assisted suicide will kill me. I'm going to be forced to die as a terrified "head in a bed" just like my mother did 12 years ago. I'm angry and depressed as hell.

Thank you for producing this. My wish is that others will see the incredible power of being able to choose your own death as you choose your own life. The strength and courage of these individuals and their families is staggering. Sending love and light to all you have lost a person, and to those who are faced with this choice.

As far as I know, you have to be of sound mind in order to have it. We are waiting for the government to allow "Advanced Directives" which allows you to make the decision while you are of sound mind.
