Working away gives endless possibilities to search for a dip. This time I'm walking the Wales coast path around Moelfre on Anglesey. With my swim back pack, hot drink and snacks I'm off for a pre-work mini-adventure.

I really enjoyed this post because it shows the reality of cold water swimming. I always tell myself, if something is telling you not to go in, listen. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I love how you are willing to show us the not so perfect days/swims. It gives people permission to just not get in if they aren't feeling it! I hope you find your swim mojo soon, and that your bum wasn't too sore x

Rachel, I really like that you show imperfection in your videos. Your way of not getting in at the various beaches you passed reminded me of myself on days that are just not right for swimming. Also sliding down a muddy slope in the trousers you wear for work seems oddly familiar. But at least you get to go to beautiful places on the sea side for work. I've been swimming only once a week since the beginning of November due to lack of time and that was always indoors. They were good long satisfying training swims but nothing compares to swimming in nature. Before e I really enjoyed some spectacularly beautiful autumn swims in my local river. Now it is too dark to go after work and before work it's mixture of having other things to do, dismal weather and lack of motivation. So I try to get my kicks out of cold showers (which actually works to some extend) while waiting for better times. I really hope you will get rid of long covid soon and start to enjoy swimming anywhere anytime as much as you did before.

Never mind no swimming those views were stunning. In the winter I do still swim but not always every week and I have found that putting on my wetsuits makes me more likely to go in. That walk looked fun AND loved the fancy stove!

WOW Rachel… I’m only 1 minute into the video and I am stunned by the incredible architecture and the scenery. The old stone walls and buildings, the beach… everything looks so interesting and full of charm and history. The views are beautiful!! I also love the sounds of the seagulls (I know this might make you laugh, but I love the sound of birds at the water). Eating a Welsh Cake with a hot cup of tea on the beach in Wales… life does not get any better than that (imho)! No worries about your muddy butt… you’ve now invented a new strategy for hiking unfamiliar beach trails… “Rachel’s Rule: always look 5m to either side when scoping out a new trail.” I understand the set-back of not being able to get in a swim because, as you know, I am in my 6 month off-season. There is too much snow and ice to get near the water so I just have to look at as I drive to and from school each day. I have to cross three one-lane bridges on my drive to town so I always get to see the water everyday. There are massive chunks of ice flowing down the river so I am not thinking about swimming at all. Thanks for sharing this beautiful coastal adventure with us. Your videos are always inspiring and interesting… just what I need during this busy and very cold time of the year. Thanks again, safe travels to you. 💦🌎Ⓜary❄⛄

The chunks of ice flowing down the river sound hectic Mary. Stay on the bridge looking down at them! Longer days now so the thaw is not so many months away x

Yesterday was my birthday & I got all ready to go swimming. There was a very cold NE wind & I couldn’t find a sheltered entry point. So for the first time I decided not to go in. I had started my day feeling cold & hadn’t really warmed up so the prospect of making myself colder (voluntarily) was not appealing. Once I’d decided not to go in I enjoyed the remainder of my walk. I thought it’s my birthday - I don’t have to do anything under pressure!

You have the most delightful positive attitude. Even when you are feeling a bit off, you remain positive which is such a wonderful quality. Sorry to hear you've been knocked a bit low but I'm sure you will 100% very soon. I think it's a bit like having to start over. The old fears and discomforts seem insurmountable but you will succeed.

Sorry to hear you're still not right, hope you're feeling better and get your mojo back soon! I haven't been for a river dip in quite a while as it's been quite a mess with all the rain we had. Have resorted to cold showers and dipping in the lay-z-spa, which is now regularly getting down to 8°C because we daren't heat it up very often 🥶

I've been in the water since, this was filmed a couple of weeks ago and I've been for a dip in Devon and locally too. The Devon one really got me going - loved it. The one closer to home felt much colder, but maybe because it was a cold day and I hadn't felt warm - the actual temp was identical! Things are on the up. Rach x

I've just got home from my sunrise swim and enjoyed watching your video over my tea and toast! You do get to some lovely places for your work. You must have an interesting and varied job if it takes you out on a boat! Lucky you! I'm so sorry you are still suffering from fatigue Rachel - that must be so frustrating. I had Covid in July and did suffer for a couple of months afterwards but thankfully am fine now. I really hope you get your strength and mojo back again. I hope you manage to get back in the water back at home even if it's just for a short dip rather than full swim! But as you say, just being by the water can be enough to give you a lift! We are away for a few days at our cottage in Pembrokeshire so I'm now off for a walk on the coastal path. I'll take my flask of coffee with me and think of you as I'm sitting drinking it!

The fatigue is a bit of a bore, it's like living on mute. I think I'm coming out of it though, I'm taking some specific vitamins and they're making me feel better and I've also started to look at improving my health through the food I'm eating. Let's see how I go. Mojo-wise this was filmed before last week's trip to Devon, so I'm getting back on track! I'll think of you at your Pembs cottage, enjoy your flask of coffee x

How did you go? I loved my Devon dip last week (filmed a few days after this, should have mentioned that in the vid!). Lots of people lose their swim-mojo at this time of year. You need to be extra careful to make sure you set up for success - check the wind direction (most of my locations are best with off-shore wind, as I'm so close in the swim spot is in the selter of the land), make sure you don't have to walk too far in your cozzie to get in or out, quick change and a warm drink for afterwards. Look after yourself and if you're not feeling it, don't get it - we do it for fun, nothing to prove. Just looking at water has pretty much the same mental health benefits as getting in it, so enjoy your flash and snack whether or not you've been in! xx

@@EverydayAthleteRach great advice thank you, it was a grey down but shallow and calm. I got in up to my shoulders and whilst i normally swoosh about i just claps my hand out the water arms over my chest and breathing focused. I felt such a huge mental benefit from having done so! I guess thats the amazing thing about the cold water swimming it thats it’s always there weather daily or monthly or longer! I know i never regret a dip! Xx … i think I’ll invest in gloves this year! Xx

@@EverydayAthleteRach I love Cable bay because its very accessible, I tend to take my boogie board so it's either a swim or play in the waves, either way I'm not disappointed. And if I can't get in the water because conditions aren't safe there's a lovely walk to a burial chamber along the cliff top path 😁 x

Silly question but... if you had a flask, how come you didn't just bring hot water in it to save heating it up.. I haven't been in the sea for almost 2 weeks due to a small op.. I'm really nervous about getting back to it coz the weather has plummeted! Going to try tomorrow 🤞🤞x

The flask I had there isn't great at retaining heat - more of a water carrier, also I like to have boiling water to make tea. You'l be fine getting back in, you know the rule - just don't stay in too long. Better to be thinking I could have stayed longer than to think I should have got out earlier! If you're not feeling it - just don't get in x
