Love your process, very similar to mine. Being a leftie myself, I have the same smudging/“reactivating” issue you discovered. I also live in a hot country, which makes things even less ideal. Fountain pen friendly a paper is coated and less absorbent than other papers, which means that more of the dye dries on the page and not in the fibers. Because of that reason, i don’t see how this issue can be overcome with anything less than what you suggested yourself (waterproof ink and absorbent paper). I have come to learn how to work around it and embrace it as part of my writing experience. From the paper you have in the states, Rhodia is a good choice for me, as the ink dries faster than on Clairefontaine or Tomoe River. Hope this helps! Thanks for another great video, and hope you keep writing.

you’re so right, i don’t experience smudging on “normal” paper but the ink bleeds and feathers because of it being more absorbent. i haven’t tried rhodia, i’ll look into it. thank you for the suggestion and for watching!

Hey! I just recently found your channel and I love your insights. I've also started my fountain pen journey for 3 weeks now. I got a fine tip Lamy Safari pink cliff and all I had was this journal notebook that I had from the big box stores. The smudging was insane especially on my Lamy Mango Ink. So now Im looking for good places to get good paper/notebooks Let's have this journey together!

@@DarkSide3211 hello! if you want to try MD Paper, you can try out this passport size refill even if you don’t have a traveler’s notebook. it might be a cheaper option to start out this way instead of fully committing to a full size Midori MD notebook. thank you for watching and best of luck to both of us in this fun journey! 😊

Dollar tree notebooks are inexpensive. That is expensive.
