Thank you for your very interesting piece of work, Laurence! I have my origins in Thrace too. Both my parents were born in Edirne. Thrace has been good to us, mostly I must add. What was most interesting in the 1870s was the building of the railroad from Istanbul to Sofia, through Thrace, joining together the Jewish communities of Turkey and Bulgaria; later on even those of Belgrade, Bucharest and Saloniki; later on even Vienna Thus four of my eight uncles who lived in Bulgaria, only a few hours from Edirne, could visit the other brothers in Edirne regularly.

I like this Lawrence! I was in Turkey with the US military 1957 - 1959 near Karamursel...I was hoping that some fotos from Kocaeli province would be here...I got to know the Jewish adjutant (lawyer) for our base...;I told him I had ridden a street car and saw a business named 'TERRYS' and he told me it was his father's place :)

תודה על הכתבה ,כיוצא טורקיה וקירבה לאחת הערים TEKIRDAG ,אני יכול להעיד שהמצב של בית העלמין היהודי גרוע בהרבה יותר מאשר בתמונות.
