When Parliament passed the Act (1806) banning trading in slaves with foreign colonies it was intended to attack French interests. But it also it undermined the bulk of the British trade. The Act of 1807 outlawing the trade totally, the Act we commemorate this year, was simply the coup de grace to a process put in place the year before
