This album was so ahead of its time, as was the band. I for one am kind of glad they broke up, thats is what great amazingly creative bands do. Great fucking band.

Surprising! A very challenging blend of Heavy metal with dark, Avant garde influences. This is utterly personal and takes the band to a higher level. The kind of album which could have major repercussions over the future Metal scene, beware!

Totally! An extremely progressive and experimental band for the 90's. In Solitude's sound is kind of uncommon, yet it goes along with traditional heavy metal like Mercyful Fate.

It's a good mix of influences,it doesn't actually sound like any other band in particular though you can see the ingredients.Some people may want the same old for ever,the rest of us can take this kind of thing

I'm really into the record before this one when played at 45rpm, and it's decent at normal speed too. But this song sounds sort've like ghost, so I'm pretty reluctant to check it out. Is this song pretty well representative to the rest of the album?

That's funny. I thought the bass on the whole album sounded weak in my truck, so on the second play I cranked the bass and blew a speaker. LMFAO!

I think the voice is broken, but this is the good, in the history of metal the voice experimentation is scencial, I really love this song, remind me parts of ghost is really good change for the band, but they dont must try to repeat the formule, dark is good but only for this song, is an amazing song, have achieved something memorable and that's great

I have to do it this way, because I cannot write an answer directly to the post, God knows why not. ***** : I would take a more careful tone if you speak out such accusations! In Solitude sounded a lot like Heavy Metal bands from the 80ies on their last two outputs. This in addition their occult themes could make them remind people of King Diamond or Venom. If you listen closely there is, indeed, a faint similarity to Ghost, which is no suprise because Ghost mostly consists of members of newer Heavy Metal bands from Sweden, but noone knows actually who it is.
@FunerealObsession10 жыл бұрын
Mysticism in metal isn't too uncommon. I mean it goes back to Sabbath, especially Dio-era Sabbath. Some bands are more casual, others more intentionally substantive with it.

To be fair, how we define avant-garde and perhaps its inherent definition is... odd. A lot of things we call normal might have once been avant-garde and leading from that, all that is now "avant-garde" might a generation later be seen as mundane and trite. Of course some classify it as "fuck genre boundaries, smush all that shit together" (which tends to not work terribly well in my experience) although I don't know if "avant-garde" would fit that well.
@Wittemn10 жыл бұрын
Sure, I said the M.F. thing in a positive way. But I.S. has far more deep and mystical lyrics, something that I have not found in many bands

Have yet to hear any of their other songs, but it seems like they changed the direction of their style; at least on this song. They used to blatantly worship Mercyful Fate, but only some of the leadwork retains that style, and maybe one or two riffs. Was never a fan of the vocalist, but at least he isn't growling.
@AoLIronmaiden10 жыл бұрын
they're like 300 times better live lol

Wait, of all the bands you decided to compare this to, you picked Sisters of Mercy? Not Mercyful Fate, or anyone this actually sounds like? Yes, this is not avante-garde by any extent of the imagination, but that boggles my mind.

Yeah, it's "familiar" but I.S. still manage to put their own spin on it you know? Leading from that, people seem to think that just because it's been done before that you can't still be distinctive which this band shows is far from the truth.
