That was a NY thing. The rest of country didn't care about Alpo, AZ, Rich Porter or the Supreme Team. We cared about LL, Run DMC, Slick Rick, etc... in the '80s. We cared about the music, not how much money or clout these rappers had in the streets.

Who do you think funded those upstart labels back then?! Classic movies (New Jack City Paid In Full Belly etc) were loosely based on real life hustlers & ppl around the Country were intrigued & supported, outside of major Metropolitan cities rural AmeriKKKa lived vicariously through big city hustlers stories.

In every borough youth were enamored by the hustles, or the fruits of their labor. Not all of the youth wanted to be like the hustlers, but all of us wanted the perceived nice things of the hustler lifestyle.

Great stuff. I could listen to her wisdom all day. The black community in the UK 🇬🇧, where I'm from, I believe could really relate to a lot of watch she touches on. Big up Math and his MEO team and Erica. Would love to see her in London, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow etc. Around the UK. Her speaking.

It's been said that the change will not come until a rich black man and a common black man are being chased by the same monster..

Interesting take.....outside of race what do a rich black man and common man have in common????? If the rich man sought to help improve the common man's socioeconomic condition, would he be able to sustain the lifestyle he still holds. With great responsibility comes sacrifice and deep down, the black elite don't want to sacrifice for the greater cause tbh.

The point made at 7:40 is correct. None of them say anything when they are alright, comfortable, and making the money they think they are deserved. But as soon as they are not quite getting what they want, that’s when they come out to complain and make it a black collective issue. Seen this with Kanye, Taraji, Dame, Monique, and more

I 💯 % agree with her. The wealthiest are allowed. You can see that by who shuts up in certain conversations. Or speaks up in certain conversations. I think Kanye is the only one that’s free. And maybe diddy but not by choice. They already stripped him. Ye said it on drink champs. One dude running in his underwear is crazy. Others join in it’s a marathon.

Kanye is mentally ill imo. After that rant on TMZ I knew something wasn't right and he admitted he wasnt taking his medication. Ain't no excuse for his behavior because he grown but I can't take serious a grown man who dealing with mental issues and issues with white folks without naming names.

Shes totally right. I been felt hat way about hip hop. WE as black people set the tone whats cool music, slang or fashion. the world follows us and does the same shit we do when it comes to hip hop and the music. And dont @ me. hip hop is damn there everywhere now. If something aint cool to us and it makes waves THAT ITS NOT, it just aint cool no more! We definitely always had the power to switch the tempo and energy in the streets with the content of music. Its just for some damn reason a lot of Rap artists now in this generation are just stuck in one driving lane and sound for the worst these days smh. The balance in Mainstream aint there like it was before with Street vs conscious rap. For every NWA or Wu Tang clan vibe of music there was always a Tribe called Quest or Public Enemy Vibe to counter with. The youth dont have that ANYmore on the radio or constantly pushed now in balance that way. Drill music and gangsta rap took mainstream over entirely now. If it aint rappin about sex, drugs, set trippin and twerkin it aint popular!

But on TV the artist were more popular and " some" drug dealers envied that because they couldnt buy the fame that came with being a TV household star. Drug dealers were street stars and werent much of a street star outside of their neighborhoods. The two fames are different. No drug dealer was as famous as Eric B & Rakim as I see it
