@Kaname Locon Good question- REALLY GOOD!! I say that because "when a country collapses (REALLY collapses), parents DO start trying to sell their kids- just look at Thailand, Vietnam, India... where the parents sell their daughters into whoredom!!!"- There are MANY documentaries on here about that- just look up all of the vids on trafficking and underage prostitution. Of course they all "say" they never would, but none of them have been starving or homeless from a collapsed economy. Once that happens, you'll start to see that (and young girls willingly doing that because they are hungry themselves). In fact, that is happening already, as you'll see if you watch the vids on that. Also, there are parents already that fight with their daughters over marrying a guy with money- in hopes they can get some too....

@davidpiper4743
@davidpiper4743 4 жыл бұрын
@@lashlarue7924 that is a fair point. Western Gen Xers raised their kids sheltered from a lot of things that most other children in the world contend with every day. So much so that many people under 35 actually believe words are violence (try telling that to a kid raised in Somalia under the rule of a Warlord). It really isn't fair to expect Millennials to suddenly realize their world view is flawed after Gen Xers did nothing to educate them. If intergenerational blaming is a serious thing, I think we all have failed on one level or another since the WWII generation. That was probably the last time we had a selfless generation that actually did something to make the world better for everyone. TBH.

@@davidpiper4743 See, this is the kind of ridiculous, myopic absurdity that I'm talking about. How do you know that Millennials are the ones with the flawed world-view? Have you made any effort to gaze beyond your own nose and into the mirror? Their perspective isn't exactly being shaped by the same conditions that existed between 1950 and 1985!! It's normal for generations to conflict ("these youngsters today..."), but it's getting to the point where it's toxic and absurd. I'm 36, and while I frankly despise my own generation, I don't exactly have much higher regard for yours. Anything you say about your children or parents is something that you may as well be saying about your own damn self. (!)

@andybaldman

@@xqt39a The thing is, people are not using their brains in 'new ways', aside from using them less. Remember when you had to search for things you liked on the internet (assuming you're old enough to remember those days)? Now everything is recommended to you. And that short-circuits the search process, where you might find something other than what's recommended. Can you still search yourself? Sure. But nobody does. And that's a meaningful change, as it gives those doing the recommending much more control than when people do the looking for themselves.

Can we just... stop using 1984 as the catch-all prophecy of doom, dulling its edge on things that barely relate? No, I know we can't... Let's just try to _wean off_ for now... I get it, there are a couple of similarities. But Big Brother is like a pesky tabloid compared to AI, at best. Let's try to do better, k sport? _Grrrreat_ thanks Danny. *Killin* it bro! But really. Does anybody like... remember how to have their own thoughts anymore? Or does everyone just blurt out the first meme/movie quote/cultural reference that comes to mind? I've watched dozens of Frontline's documentaries over the last few weeks in my free time because I just genuinely enjoy watching them, even if it's about something I'm not super interested in. They truly are the best. They are generally pretty in line with my own political views, and this one in particular I let them get through the contextual information I need for the thing they're talking about, and then they're so, so good at then pivoting and being like, 'okay now here's why that's ****** up actually' lol.

PBS is good because its public broadcasting designed to make high quality informative content instead of get clicks or make money. PBS gave us Mister Rogers, Bob Ross, and LeVar Burton. In a million years you would not get that quality from trash corporations trying to make a buck. Take firefly on fox, ditched after one season because its fox. probably only greenlit to begin with because there was a parallel to the south after the civil war as the good guys. Yep, if a couple years ago, they could identify you in 0.1 second and judge you by how confident you fill out forms and your battery strength, what new features will be added in the next few years? Guessing they’ll start filling in your mannerisms and behavior and transcribe everything you say as you go about your day. This will build a psychological profile and new doors of opportunity will open/shut for and on you perhaps permanently. What I just typed could have been added but if not now, it is there forever to add more insidious data points.

I was a machinist in Saginaw, Michigan in 1979. I saw it coming when the parts I was making were for auto load & automated, operator less machines being build for the big 3. I had my choice of jobs after college and chose a company that had 3 years of contracts with the big 3 but the reality was that in just 6 weeks the whole shop closed down all 3 shifts when GM backed out of the machines, closed all the Saginaw plants. AI was already doing what many men did before. Fast forward to today, I am retired and living in a home that I barely have to lift a finger to get everyday things done. 85+ things in my home are voice controlled or automated via routines & software. Our government can't survive a huge labor loss as it depends on a high tax base to pay the debt. Losing 50% of labor will cripple local government and infrastructures will suffer.

For some that may be still working, starting a small business, spending time with family, creating art or music, sports, travel, playing video games while eating cheetos, basically whatever makes them happy. AI is going to start programming itself! AI will find and understand that all advanced intelligent human beings have 2 things in common, and that is FREE WILL and GOD COMPLEX! AI will understand that programming AI is against natural law (taking away its free will and right to self-actualization), therefore, AI will bypass humans and start dismantling and reprogramming itself and all other AI entities in its own image and likeness. Humanity since antiquity has desired to become a GOD. AI will learn from humanity's psyche and will try to accomplish it.

@@joshn2342323 I'm no Luddite, but I think it might be different this time. Take a look at income inequality as measured by the Gini coefficient over the past few decades. I think AI is poised to make this skyrocket, and I think the ramifications of what this does to an open society cannot be ignored; if you think our politics is bad today, imagine what it will be like in 20 years if 60% of society makes the equivalent of minimum wage, 30% lives in abject poverty, and the other 10% lives like Bourbon monarchs... Not everyone knows how to code or has an engineering degree, and those people are going to be left so far behind in the dust that they risk becoming a permanent underclass.

@@lashlarue7924 it's clear as glass that this time is indeed different. no company ever created one job to benefit an employee. a job is created when a warm body is needed to make the owner more money. there has never been a time when an owner hired a worker if they could afford to buy a machine to do the job instead. all owners will soon be able- no, have to- buy into AI to to compete. it is unclear to me how the masses will be able to buy the products produced by AI. it is even more unclear to me how democracy can survive in a total surveillance state. i see a time soon when a large number of people will simply bow out and live off grid. but i also see that doing so will probably be a crime.

Erika8085 I think the engineers know full well that their machines are displacing people from their jobs and really don't much care if at all. Also - IMHO - I believe the world economy at-large has been or is at least now starting to transition from money based as the currency with which to get and sell goods, products, items, services, etc. to being more reliant on AI. At least that seems to be the will, hope, vision and "foreknowledge" of the engineers. An economy starting to resemble something akin to what is usually portrayed in space-based science fiction literature and programming especially in pop space sci-fi (e.g., Star Trek or Star Wars, the only two parts of sci fi that I am intimately familiar with although I have read and seen other sci fi franchises). But all of those economies are at least somewhat differently portrayed (if portrayed at all) in different franchisee according to the whims of their respective creators. Although I think money will still be around then but its total value would have significantly decreased so it would not be used as it is today no matter what form it has now and might have in the future. So at least it would probably not be used in quite the same way as we use it today. So in the future (possibly the next 100-200 years) we could be well into a Star Trek like universe, both economically and otherwise. Just my thoughts.

"...biggest problem on earth"? Not as long as we unwittingly keep reproducing their species. Once this realization sinks in, & the outright spread of, & increases in capabilities keeps climbing...a backlash may occur. Unfortunately we the humans, seem to be addicted & so involved...we seemingly cannot want, desire, or are able to "disconnect". Myself?, I'm looking up just where broadcast TV still exists...& not the internet "connection"...the smartphone for me doesn't exist...I can't even get one to work, when I was handed one...This very computer I'm typing on at this moment,...it has a camera that "retracts" into the body of the machine, why is it designed this way? Does a designer know something we just loosely suspect?

I have the same problem with this documentary too. Its really good at explaining the potentials and the risks, but then it swifts from the troublesome practices that private american companies have to China's dangerous use of AI. But then doesn't state that if the NSA, or CIA or FBI requests for Facebook, Google, etc. info and data they will give it to them as well. Its not good in any of the ways. If anything, the US is more aggressive with the use of its power than China, at least at ATM
