Two of my favorites. Just good story tellers with no glitz or glamour.

When you said Jared was joining you, I thought...I would love to be a mouse in the corner. Thank you for letting us all be that "mouse." Now at age 58, I picked up bow hunting deer 6 years ago, when my son wanted to try it. We have learned so much from the two of you. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.

I appreciate this conversation. A couple of real quality guys. I'm not in the Midwest, but I still feel like I've learned about deer hunting from both of you. It's enjoyable to hear the perspectives of hunters with that much experience and passion.

I've been a follower of the both of you since the early years of Midwest Whitetail. I enjoy everything the two of you bring to your followers. You guys are classy family men who are very successful and experienced in the world of whitetails.

Loved this podcast style talk in the blind. It’s a great to learn, great way for friends to catch up and connect, and someone like me can relate to the few times I sat with my dad and had conversations like this. Might not always end with a kill, but this is what memories are also made of especially because of following the two of you from the early Midwest whitetail days

Bill, I'm really enjoying watching your season. Although I'm sure you're getting frustrated, you are bringing us with you on hunts that most of us experience ourselves.Just because it's Iowa doesn't mean it's easy. It's real. Enjoyed seeing you both in the blind! Keep em coming! -Mike from MI. (Dreaming of a 3yo 8 to walk out up here😅)

Excellent episode!! I found Midwest whitetail when it started or close to it and watched it forever. I’m Jared’s age and remember him on the show. It’s great having you guys each doing your own thing now. Hearing some of stories from the old mw days was great. Really enjoy both your guys channels

Bill update from Southern KY on my end. I’ve mentioned how slow it’s been here. Just stuck with the fundamentals many of which I’ve learned from you. When it gets slow it’s easy to second guess everything. I got the right wind yesterday (Sat Nov 9) and knew it was worth a roll of the dice. Took a gamble and slowly stalked my way into the fringe of my rut funnel and large cutover bedding area on opening day of rifle season with my Wicked Ridge x-bow. After making some soft grunt just before climbing up I had a small 4 pt slip up just as I clipped into my safety strap. Got set down and he eased off and bumped up a doe from edge of my thicket. I made a bleat and tending grunt series. Heard a buck grunt just upwind on the funnel. Not 10 minutes in the stand had a mature 150” 10pt come to investigate. He got on the doe who’d eased off’s trail. I had to get him to stop as he was totally locked in and lip curling to make a 47 yd shot and double lunged him. He didn’t go 45 yds. So staying with the fundamental and after a super slow rut, was truly blessed with a classic rut hunt. So appreciate all you’ve done for sharing your passion over the years! Good luck and stick to the program!

Congrats! That is a very good lesson. You have to stick with the basics. I know people want me to do something and say something revolutionary here, but there is only one way to be consistently successful over a lifetime of hunting these things - stick with the fundamentals. I used to frustrate my magazine editors because they always some new ground-breaking strategy from me, but all I had was simple fundamentals. Eventually, they came to appreciate that we serve the community best when we educate them fairly - no frills - stick with what works and let time work for you. Thanks for the comment and congrats again.

@ well I’ve been a decile since those days. Your terrain illustrations were revolutionary before all the smart phone mapping etc. There’s a whole generation of us who you helped understand just how to begin the chess match and I’m surely grateful!

Good interview, I know you don't like to struggle, but the reality is most of us aren't passing 150's, lol. It makes it a little more real for us. I'm pretty happy if a 4 year old strolls down my Rye plot. :)

Agreed. I know that in my heart, but I got spoiled on that Southern Iowa farm where I was into big deer on a pretty regular basis. This farm will keep getting slowly better, but it will be a struggle for at least a couple more years. Good luck and thanks for the comment.

Good episode, Bill. I have a question? I heard Jarod complain about other hunters spoiling his hunting. It never sits right with me when hunting and fishing creators do this. It feels like your biting the hand that feeds you. Whether its guilt tripping about management objectives, complaining about fan interactions, or being annoyed about fans encroching on your territory, it never sits right with me. What are your thoughts on this topic?
@bill-winke19 күн бұрын
I am a Jared fan, so I am biased. Jared was an intern for me back in 2010 and worked for me a few years after that. So, I have to give Jared a pass for that reason if no other. I had people hunt the fringes of my farm in Southern Iowa who were only there because they saw the bucks I was hunting and knew where I was hunting them - sometimes they actually killed them. That did get under my skin, but - like you say - if you don't want others hunting the same bucks, don't show them the bucks. that is what Jared does - holds back the footage until he kills them. For my situation, I just accepted it and showed the bucks I was hunting. I will leave it at that.

How can you hunt with all that talking ?
@bill-winke19 күн бұрын
We are actually talking quieter than it sounds on the video. We turn the volume way up in the editing software so you can hear it. Also, a deer won't hear a light conversation if it is 100 yards away or more. I have done it many, many times. We just keep tabs to make sure nothing is sneaking in on us. Good luck.

The title literally says.. "video podcast"... you keep complaining about talking, but still watch it. It's youtube, you can pick your content. 🤷♂️
