Great vid as always! Lately i was really trying to understand how the pros deal with signal routing. I mean guys like Tchad, Brauer, Scheps. I think that is one thing that we all should study and it helped me a lot. I started using Brauer's multi bus like you but i also included one more bus, lets call it V, which is unprocessed and goes straight to mix bus or final bus whatever...I think this gives you even more flexibility in sending tracks both in ABCD but also through a send ,straight to mix bus. I wonder if you use Brauer's vocal style multi parallel compression? I am experimenting with it and it is also a great option in my opinion ,maybe not in every mix. Once again thank's for your motivation and inspiration you are sharing on this channel. Keep up with what you are doing! Greetings from Greece!

The funny thing is that Michael doesn’t use Brauerizing anymore and Andrew isn’t hardly using parallel processing anymore. Both approaches are however interesting to try out just as the clip to zero mixing technique, or top down mixing. All have their pros and cons, choose or combine whatever works best for you 🙂

Thank you @stelioslioste1108 ! Those additional methods you describe work great also. I’ve used the clean bus before many times, it’s a solid way to work. Great way to keep transients alive. I tend to take pains not to hit any of the parallels too hard which eliminates the need for the clean bus in many cases. I also like the method you describe using a few channels for vocal compression and also the clean vocal all in parallel, and blend to taste. I used to have 3, sometimes 4 channels for vocal parallel processing. Now a days I tend to prefer working in this slimmed down style. I do a little bit more processing on the tracks themselves (kind of TLA style), and pretty much the smallest amount of Brauer style I can get away with. Everyone has their own style of how they like to work, and I ideas you mentioned are all very sound. I’m often changing my methods, which is my favorite part about what we do

@@Chaos-Dynamics very true. My favorite part about what we do, and what keeps it interesting all the time, is that we can change things as often as we want. Constantly be honing our process for our ever evolving preferences for how we want to work. Thats the same reason I’ve changed to using VCA’s instead of using Busses for everything. I find that when processing in the ABCD style, I don’t need to do any Bus processing for the groups separately (before they hit ABCD). Because I don’t need the insert slots on the busses, I tend to prefer VCA’s because it’s just a volume control (as you mentioned), which is all I need to determine how much of which instrument group I want to feed into the ABCD bus processing.

@ I watched a video how in the 90’s beats were layered. Stepping out of our comfort zone and learning how things were done in different genres and eras will give new approaches. Certain styles have different methods and you won’t get a 60’s sound with multi mic techniques. Every mix is different and sometimes it needs 30 db of compression or even extreme eq boosts. I understand the surgical mumbo jumbo and endless tweaks but I don’t want to drown in that swamp. If people start listening to what sounds good in the context of a mix and then look how much db of cut, boost or compression they end up with. All those standard ratios, attack and release times mean nothing. Search for the sweetspot and forget about the numbers.

Hey Evan I see you haven't added pro tools as a tag, maybe you'll get more hits? P.s. I've never looked at anyones tags 😅 I just got the impulse to help after realizing you don't write pro tools in the title so I looked up the tags to be sure.

By "apple" he means "cmd/command" 😂 usually key commands are the same in windows except that it's ctrl instead of cmd.

Thank you! Very true. I’m not positive but I think that key used to have an icon of an apple on it and they changed it
