Ah yes, King Knight's stage theme! If I recall correctly, the Bard, who's the game's stand-in for the composer Jake Kaufman, said this "Kickstarted" his career, referencing how this was the first playable stage of the game back when was on Kickstarter. Not sure if it was actually the first song he composed for the game, but it left an impact nonetheless! One of these days I hope Jonny will eventually cover "Fighting With All Our Might", that's my favorite track from Shovel Knight.

It's honestly amazing how much King of Cards changed my perspective on this level back when I first finished it. Like, I've always really liked both this level and King Knight for their style, and especially music, even though they had that feel of just being "your basic first main level" back then. But after King of Cards, it truly feels you are wrapping up a major saga, right there in the first level. And King Knight, even though he's a traitor at the end of it all who deserved what he got, I can't help but have some respect for the fact that he did work for everything he had gotten, even if he ended up trading it away. So yeah, just some thoughs inspired by the snazzy cover!

I’m such a sucker for when games pull things like that, Kid Icarus: Uprising did something similar with a super duper intense first level It feels like the game just grabs you and drags you right into the action with no hesitation, like it can’t wait to show itself off to the player

Owns too much shit? Check! Has no sense of honor cuz he's too strong for that shit? Check! Somehow has/had friends despite being an asshole? Check! Owns a castle? Check! STOLE a castle (definitely completely unrelated 👀)? Check! Has a goofy personality? Check! Has a goofy defeat? Check! The only difference that instantly comes to mind is that King Knight is an emotional wreck rather than a hygienic one 🤣
