I had a blast watching this In The Heights Movie First 8 Minutes teaser before finally seeing the entire film last night. As a Cuban-American, former musical theatre performer and vocal coach...I was fan-girling hard. Adapting musicals to film is never easy, but this was fun and well executed. I could NOT stop dancing and the feeling of community was so beautiful. What did you guys think? Have you seen it?

God. It's so nice to hear someone who gets what this is all about. I've seen white vocal coaches react to this and they were "I was bored when they were talking about buying coffees and what they do during the day" and that's the whole point. This is our regular every day life on the screen. Our culture, our hustle, no guns or violence or drugs to represent our people. That's why it's important and engaging because In The Heights about being who we are and celebrating it! Thank you. Subscribing now.

I know! I lost the respect for some creators because of this. Like, the bodega scene is super interesting because it shows so many characteristics aspects of our daily lives. When Benny was holding the Maizena box I laughed. The café con leche, the lottery tickets, the leche condensada...For once I saw things close to me, added to the story as routine and not a joke...

That's bonkers to imagine, that other people wouldn't find the song interesting. Like, the whole point is that the show is basically just a notably hectic snapshot of these people's lives.

I love the sheer nostalgia of this musical, and this opening number in particular. I'm not even Latino, but as someone born in the Bronx, so much of this culture was around me throughout my childhood that it feels like a part of me, and I feel like anyone who is in a similar situation to me probably couldn't help smiling throughout this whole performance.

I was really far away from the culture I was born into and I grew up adjacent to a Latin community and I had an abuela who loved me and took me under her wing. I always wished I was born into that community but as an adoptee, my heart felt like I was visiting my childhood. I love this so much and the music I totally can not sit still listening. Ah my heart.

I love this movie, I am so upset that people always say it flopped but it was released in the middle of the pandemic, nobody was going to theaters, so that is no indication of how fantastic this movie is! I'm not a Latina but I am from New York City and was in the bodegas every day and surrounded by Latino and Caribbean cultures so this movie feels like home to me, too. I had to learn a bunch of Spanish phrases just so I can sing along. But it's so so fun, musically, cinematic ally, and great storytelling. I'm legit heartbroken that so many people missed out on it because of the timing.

I’m Mexican-American, born and raised in California, never been to New York, I don’t know anyone from New York, didn’t grow up in a community like that but when I watched this first 8 minutes I felt emotional. Because there was people who looked like me in a musical speaking and singing in English and Spanish. First or second generation Latinos that are being represented in a positive light in a film that had nothing to do with gangs and drug cartels and jail, etc while yes that does exist that isn’t the only thing that encapsulates us. So you’re damn right I saw this film in theaters and loved every second of it.

I havent seen a musical since i was little kid. I just finished this movie and I have to say I enjoyed it alot, and its left me both eager to see more Musicals in Film like Steven Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY,but also more critical of how Steven Spielberg represents the Puerto Rican culture that is heavily prevalent in the material and was heavily Whitewashed in The 60s original. My favorite songs were the Opening,The Beauty Salon Song, and Vanessa you make me Sweat. My biggest question I'm left with is where the the black Musical version ? I'd love to see a MUSICAL that celebrates BLACK CULTURE with a heavy influence on the early 90s NEW JACK SWING style of music like Bel-Biv-Devoe,BOYZ 2 MEN,New Edition and Bobby Brown.
