It was Alan Rickman who suggested Hans should wear a fine business suit. Originally the costume department fitting him for body armour when Alan said why would he wear amour the same as his body guards. Its is in one of his interviews.

In my opinion, what makes Die Hard an action movie classic is it's simplicity. Sure it seems like a massive blockbuster, but people seem to forget how small it keeps things. I kinda wish most modern films would be more simple and straightforward, rather than be overblown, CGI heavy, wannabe superhero blockbusters. Also I really like that John McClane isn't some ex-marine, a super soldier Vietnam vet, or a terminator, he's just an off duty police officer who wants to see his wife and kids for the holidays, but needs to fight crime and save the day first. I also think making it a Christmas movie was a great move, artistically. Because not every Christmas movie needs all the cliche conventions like, Santa Claus, snow or all that basic crap we get from normal Christmas specials.

Honestly, props to Holly for being the only person capable of getting under Hans’ skin. Even John McClane’s repeated foiling of Hans’ efforts does little more than mildly annoy him. When Holly tells Hans right to his face that he’s little more than a common thief, he snaps. It didn’t matter if Hans had succeeded in stopping John and pulled off his scheme afterwards. In that moment, he lost, pure and simple.

@@inthemindofavillain Yep. Hans’ ego was his downfall. When he has McClane dead to rights at the end (or so he thinks), he gets distracted by his own joke (or, rather, McClane laughing at it) that McClane is able to hide his gun on his back, then shoot Hans’ henchman and Hans himself.

Indeed, John McClane is even a great selection candidate! Being that, he is ranked 12th by Empire magazine, which places Hans Gruber at the 17th position in the Greatest Movie Character of All Time list. As for another good criminal from Die Hard, Fritz maybe a better choice than the leading hero, who importalised Bruce Willis with the classic line "Yippe Kai-A Moter Truckers"... or words to that effect.

There are 4 types of villain: * Lethal: They see you, they kill you. Hans Gruber, Terminator, Darth Vader. * Pushes heroes: Throws the hero against the walls, against the floor and the environment is destroyed that way. Dragon Ball Z, The Matrix, DC comics fights. They are not lethal, but cause quite a physical headache to heroes. * Harassers: They pose an obstacle but are not lethal. Megatron, villains from Clone Wars. * Villanous words: This vilain is the most kids friendly. The villain does not even do evil things. This villain will only say villanous things. Skeletor.

Something to think about.: Hans’ plan seems brilliant, until you think about his escape plan. His plan was to escape by driving away in a small ambulance? The small ambulance would’ve been packed up with the bonds. There would only be enough space in the ambulance for Hans and the techie henchman. How would the rest of Hans’ team escape? What if the cops tried to stop the suspicious looking ambulance that came out of nowhere? Did Hans plan to abandon his men and take the bonds for himself? So many questions.
