The symbolism of Gerry Conlon going through the front door as a free man while the corrupt cowards that wrongly persecuted and convicted these innocent people went out the back doors to avoid the disgrace. So powerful!

But because of the statute of limitations;neither the detectives nor the scientists who supplied shoddy evidence could not be held accountable. The scientist handled 6000 cases before questions were asked about his conduct, and he was suspended in 1978, suspected of negligence. The purpose was to allow both police and forensic scientists to examine his standard of work and whether or not he was working to the required standards. Faults were found in more than 1500 cases; including murders, s@#ual assaults, robberies, thefts, etc. Eventually, the scientist was told to retire due to 'limited efficiency'. He made the evidence fit the detective's initial suspicions, it never entered his head that he could put an innocent person behind bars or send them to the gallows. The scientist had been working for over 20 years before he was caught. So criminal action was impossible, he could only have his credentials revoked. Which is, for any professional, pretty brutal. It means none of that lucrative agency work. There was a petition for both the scientist and the detectives to be tried for perjury and acts or omissions intended to pervert the course of justice. However, the maximum length of time between the offence and prosecution is five years. The now ex-detectives were charged in 1993, 19 years after the actual offence had been committed.

Not to make this injustice any less but another terribly harmful thing to him was smoking cigarettes. He might have avoided lung cancer and lived much longer had he quit early enough or not started at all. It was so unnecessary of him to die as young as 60.

@@peterfraney7931 Yeah - *WRONGFULLY* fvcking acquitted!!!!.... And it IS a horrific fvcking travesty of "(IN)justice" - the pigs involved literally acted with absolutel impunity, knowing that the Government of the day would back them up to the hilt at all costs, and basically acted with the attitude that "Any bunch of Paddy's will do to convict for this".... The people who actually carried out that horrific bombing were caught attempting something else; knew their gooses were cooked anyway; so they ACTUALLY CONFESSED IN FULL TO THE GUILFORD BOMBING, and said "you've got a bunch of completely innocent people, who aren't even IRA members or supporters in prison for something that they had nothing to do with!!", and they provided details only the actual bombers would have known to prove what they were saying - the authorities, including the Government of the day, in Britain didn't want to hear it, because then they'd have had to admit that they fvcked up - especially when one of the innocent DIED in their prison!!!... *DISGUSTING AND DISPICABLE DOESN'T EVEN START TO DESCRIBE IT!!!!*

In 1974 she was arrested and questioned over the bombings.Solely cause her name was Maguire and she was Irish. She was refused access to counsel and was given a hard time. A chief inspector she worked closely with on child protection matters heard she was it custody! Just think, if that security guard did not report for work. The treasonous deception would have gone on. I just wondered how many intelligence resources was wasted covering up this atrocity? How many lives. BTW Love the music choice that the director made.

They are not bagpipes. Bagpipes are Scottish. They are Uileainn pipes (Irish pipes)

How do you reconcile people confessing as being the actual bombers, asserting innocent people were in prison, but no action from England for years and years? Then, three conspirators to obstruction to justice getting off scot free? Sucks!
