Hi Guys, What is the darkest green J. M.? Do you have a "shopping list" to determine the variety closest to our preference? -- color, spread, size, zone, etc.? I know exactly what qualities I want, but am overwhelmed by what's out there.

This is a lovely, bush-like acer palmatum. I'm looking for a bush or bush-like tree that will actually shade out afternoon sun in my front garden and protect my hostas. I'm having trouble for a number of reasons including our soil is very sandy. this resulted in the fact that my house was built on an ant hill. The little darlings have compacted the half truck load of "mushroom" soil I had delivered to give this garden some organics. It's taken less than 9 years for the tiny ants to bring up the sand and compact it to a hard, unmanageable mess. the wee ants. about 1/16 inch start attacking me resulting with ants in my pants It's well draining soil, of course, but all plants, including those with taproots have to grow their roots down about a foot until they hit dead pan sandstone and then the roots grow horizontal (inclcuding white oaks!) Acer Palmatum usually need protection from the afternoon sun; I need a bush that will tolerate hot, afternoon sun to shade my hostas and do well as a container plant. I purchased all my maples from you as well as a dwarf Ginko. Do you have any suggestions?
