While I appreciate the pastor’s attempt at humor, I think it’s very important to be aware of the subconscious negative messaging that might be sent not only to children in the congregation, but especially to young adults and couples who have children, are planning to have, or already fear the prospect of having children (!!) by inferring, even as a joke, that having a lot of children is unlucky-especially in this current culture of abortion on demand. Some couples are desperate for just one child! As a Christian, we should never represent the gift of children as a burden or as being unlucky. To do so is umbilical. God makes it very clear in His Word that children are a great blessing. And it’s a reality…they truly are! May God bless you and multiply your family! Psalm 127:3-5 ESV Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
